Tracker, love it or hate it....(pic)

Eliminate the saw back for a clean flat back and at least it would baton much better IMO. Bring the regular blade back to the front of the handle...awe heck, if Tom hisself does'nt even use the thing what good is it if we all redesign it to work 'as intended' for him?

I personally don't care for the Tracker knife. Some people love it and tha is fine. However, anyone skilled in knifecraft that uses a knife designed to be a knife and then uses the Tracker, will quickly feel the difference in the two designs and prefer the simplicity of a good ole' compact belt knife. The Tracker looks "busy" with too much going on for my taste.

As far as promoting something you don't use yourself, I don't respect that position. It is a case of "do as I say, not as I do" and I learned to recognize this poor leadership/character quality early on in life.

Macclint, I was there about the time you mentioned, and recall Mr. Beck trying to sell that knife. it was a bit pricey for me at the time, but it certainly was a fine knife. The TOPS version is nowhere near as nice, although i have to admit I bought it thinking it was close the the beck version. Fool me once, they did.

The knife is a money making machine for Tom Brown, due to his connection with that movie "the Hunted" or whatever. It has nothing to do with being a good design or something he actually uses.

Here's a few

I am little disappointed in the tip breakage so early. We have had some we replace that have come back with that problem. But it took the punishment and kept cutting. We made him a bit breathless in his endeavors but that guy could tear most anything up.

here is a quick look at new prototypes

Responsive, and honest, instead of ignoring, obfuscating, or dissembling. I wish more knifemakers behaved like you, in such circumstances.

Good on you.

What Evolute said. Good job.

And for the record, I like the new version a hell of a lot better than the old. But only if you make it from a carbon steel and, as a personal thing, widen the rear of the handle at the back (vertically). It will fit the hand better against the original, from what I have held.

Hell, do that and I'll get one.

Thanks Evolute, That's just how I roll. They went out to tear the thing up and they did. Hell I even made to offer on their forum to have the guy that made the donation return the knife and I would replace it.

We do have a a few changes on the horizon. We have a prototype set with companion ESK(Everyday Survival Knife) I am making them out of High Carbon steel! I have succumbed to all the requests to make out of CARBON steel. I like the Stainless but I have been beat down on this issue. The blades will have a black oxide finish. I think it will be cool. I even made the handle scales thicker and with the advice of friend we rounded the contours.
I am going to look into locking down those fixtures. That video of them coming out bothered me too. That is an easy fix and they shouldn't come loose like that. On the new version we are using stainless steel fixtures not brass.
So Gundy, the butt-end will be wider. I look forward to hearing more from you.

 It's good to hear from a company seeing problems with their product, and working to fix it.

RS6, I will email you with additional comments/info, but it sounds as though you are on the right track in my mind.

I have owned the original version Tracker, Dave's newer style, the Aussie made EVO version as well as the TOPS release. I have handled thyour PRED and a couple of other makers variations through friends.

The ones that were closer to the original feel and handle the best due to their grinds and geometry. There is however, another variant of which 'would' be I think, the most popular and would possibly change a lot of peoples minds about them. There is not a lot of photos of it and it is one that Tom Brown had another not so well known maker construct.

I used to own the original Tracker and it was one of the dullest knives I've ever owned! No amount of sharpening seemed to improve the obtuse edge.
I had purchased a custom leather sheath but was so disappointed in the weight and my own pathetic sharpening skills that I sold it off on the auction site.

I did however have success using the sawback and made a couple bowdrills with the knife.

Grindstone Cutlery does a great job of re-Profiling the TOPS tracker but it ain't cheap. He does some great work and sharpening is Lightsaber sharp.

I'll take a kukri anyday. My 12 inch ang khola will outperform one of those things anyday.

Make one of Carbon Steel and I'm in too. Put agut hook where the blade curves and I can sell quite a few of them also. Let us know when those Carbons come out. Stainless is bullship. The tip breakage will stop with a carbon steel since it would rather bend. When is your projected release on them? And like the other few- GREAT JOB ON STANDING BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT. That's a true man. Even IF one breaks- you do the right thing. Nice friggin saw cut-outs too.

REDSCORPION-6---
How much do you think the carbon's will run on their first release if you don't mind me asking? Like a couple other guys on here, I can tell a few of us have some great mods for these knives that would really turn people on to them. It's also great you get in touch with the buyers/users of your knives so we can give you the best ideas for free.

KEEP STANDING BEHIND YOUR GREAT CRAFTSMANSHIP AND THE PEOPLE WILL RESPECT YOU, YOUR COMPANY, AND YOUR BUSINESS DEALS FOR YEARS.

We are in Pre-Release but there is more information on the website or email I can send more details. I would not want to offend the forum by selling here. I was just wanting to say good job on the test and here is where we identified some improvement areas and this is our answer to it.
www.redscorpionsix.com and send me an email.
Right now it's only Pre-release Invitation only.
