Trackrock Hammer-in Spring 2016

Thank you Carl! My son would be sleeping next to that knife you sold him...if I wasn't stealing it away all the time!

The next GA Guild meeting is May 13 and 14 at Scott Davidson's shop in Alto GA. Its NE GA. Might not be too far for you to make. Lots of knife learning on those days.

These are open to the public? Even though I'm a total newbie and know basically nothing???

that is correct!

Ok...got to look that up asap! Really Phillip, I have a classroom full of 7th graders that I'm supposed to be teaching, and instead I'm on here with you guys - looking up the GA Guild meeting!

:D:D:D

The short of it......yes.
Long version........definitely yes.
Hope you can make it, you'll see a lot of the same faces there that were at TR and you already know several members.
The boys are always welcome as well.

Thanks Carl!
I'm trying to track the relevant info down and make a plan. Got this one on the calendar now.

Just a shout out to Carl and Rick Lowe who were absolutely instrumental in making this an awesome weekend. I've already applied some of what I learned in making a SAFER forge setup. I put it all on a cart and used a .30 cal ammo can for the canola oil. Probably should have used a .50 cal, but the .30 was already empty.

I plan to get a longer regulator hose and move the bottle downward. Until then, I've got to do some ITC-100 coating work to do.

You're really going to do much better with a larger quench volume. That may work for one or two small thin geometry blades, but will over heat very quickly and not give you the cooling speed you need for a third one. Very hard to maintain a 120*-130* quench temp in that small a container.
Hey....it is all coming together for you, none of us got there in a day or two.
Still think you will get better overall control with the addition of a needle valve up near your torch. Don't forget to add a ball valve down at the tank ahead of the regulator - the quick cutoff can be very important when needed.
Sorry I didn't get to spend more time with you at your forge....I do like to see them run well. Good job overall.

Nice setup Swo. I like getting a peek at your back yard too.

Yeah, my wife said, "you know, we don't have to have the best yard, but I also don't want the worst yard. We are getting close." I'm trying to establish a St. Augustine lawn and it's a bear since I can't use most of the common weed prevention and destruction chemicals. And I'm not about to get down on my hands and knees and pull weeds.

My yard ID similar. I keep it in the acceptable zone.

Trackrock is a bucket list event for a knife nut and encompasses so much of what we all enjoy about them and the people who make, modify, collect or just plain use em'. Been meaning to get some photos of this knife up which is just a taste of the unbelievable craftsmanship of Carl Rechsteiner, aka crex. Unfortunately, these are just photos, but if you ever get a chance to see Carl's work in person take it. I also want to point out that the sheath is also 100% fabricated by Carl as well and and another work of art unto itself. I had to look at this knife, walk away for awhile and come back to it because all the details wrapped up in this beautifully organic package made my head spin. The details are almost countless, so I'll let ya'll enjoy these photos for awhile and see how many you can pick out.

I've been waiting to see pictures of that knife on this forum. It really is spectacular.

Seriously, you guys need to pull out the stops to make it to this event. It will inspire you and you will not meet a better group of people.

Although I should be working on strikers and fire steels, here's tonight's work making my first set of tongs from the blanks provided from polar bear forge that I will use to replace the "weld on a rod" method or the "long needle most pliers" method of holding things. It's a hobby at this point...

That knife is cool, but that slab is AWESOME. However your grass needs some more weeds to fit in around here. Doing less is more when it comes to the environment. Think about the fishes and all the runoff. :)

Thanks and thanks! I am OCD when it comes to my yard, so weeds check their seeds at the curb. I'm 110% all organic though with my tending.Too many kids, dogs and me rolling around in the grass daily to mess with any chemicals. I'm also in the river quite frequently, so I'm also very conscious of the environment.
