Traditional and Modern pairings

Queen DB Barlow and my ever trusty AG Russel one hand Paramedic, this thing has taken everything I have thrown at it for about 20 years now, and still shines in my eyes...

Is that considered a Crawford lock on the Paramedic?

I believe it is mr. Russells design, on the older ones like this, the handle was machined from one piece of steel, then hardened. A design that I think was way ahead of its time. He called them his one hand knife and they remain in production still, SNIP/ EDIT!

Yes, it is a Crawford lock, just learned something new:)
AG Russel handled a Crawford lock knife and thought he could improve the design, a quick google search ( Crawford lock knife) will bring you to this info.
Thanks for pointing me in that direction Finedges:thumbup:

The only I reason I thought it looked as such, Pat Crawford is not far from me. I've oohed and ahhed at a number of his customs, but they're all a tad pricey for me. Most of his stuff is classic tactical, but he uses some beautiful materials on some of his knives.
I've always wondered about the intrinsic integrity of the Crawford lock design, but it seems you could be one to confirm it's capability. Glad to see it's time tested. Thanks for the post.

I'll show my damascus bladed version here if the sun ever comes out again
Thanks again for the hint, some interesting knife history in this one, I like the look of Crawfords work from what little I have seen.

Here's the damascus version:

Folks, I wasn't sure where to post this but just thought Doug's thread here would be ideal?

The only reason I hesitated where to post this is whether it lent itself to traditional or not

I always think of fixed blades as traditional---yes some do deviate from traditional drastically but not this one so much in my opinion...

Doug and I had talked many times in the past. He posted this knife either in the Traditional and Modern pairings or the Traditional fixed blade thread? My memory fails me at times :)

But during our conversation I mentioned to Doug how much I like this fixed blade. I tend to neck carry fixed blades when I'm power washing exterior wood---decks, fences, wood siding, play systems etc... No place on my person to carry a pocket knife. My attire is swim trunks and a sleeveless T-Shirt.

Well you may have guessed by now that Doug being the great guy he is mailed this great little fixed blade my way---what a tip on this knife!!! and razor sharp to boot.

It'll be great for water contact due to the materials it is made up of.

Here she is...

I love the earthy brown covers on this knife!!!

and so this post has Traditional content to it, here is the great vintage "Utica" Doug gifted me back around Christmas time

I just have the Pile side as the Mark side didn't turn out so well.

So there you go, I found a place to post this great working fixed blade

Thanks Doug!!!

I had to try one of these for $20. I have to say I'm very impressed by the smoothness of the IKBS bearing system. The blade deploys like butta.

I've been pairing my Case medium stockman with my old reliable Spyderco Manix 2. Takes care of any situation that comes up.

Here's a combination which I often carry at work. They both reasonably meet the size limitations of a blade no longer than 2" and an opened length of no more than 4 1/2".
