Traditional folders of Hungary

Úgy látszik, most már ritkán jön @T.Erdelyi. Szeretnék én is más képeket látni!

I wish I could see more picture of that small gentleman knife!
Sok évvel ezelöt talákoztam egy férfival Pesten, aki Mosquito nevezett késeket készitett. I don’t remember his name.

I have a Szankovits knife I was wondering if you could me anything about but don’t know how to post a picture

Szankovits is a famous cutler installed in the Szentendre village, where traditionally Serbs had settled after the defeat by the Turks. His family stated making knives in 1800.
When I was young you only heard serb spoken, though only a few km from BudaPest!
There's a tradition in cutlery and the GEC 15 equivalent is named Rác, an old word for Serb.
There a website in many languages : http://keseshaz.hu/stores.php?plang=en

The knife you show is a Maskara, a pattern of Transdanubia (Dunántúl) the most Western part of Hungary, near Austria. First appeared in the 1800 and quickly became popular in the wole country. The word maskara comes from Tolna county, refering to things used on special occasions.

I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a handmade Hungarian knife, right on time for Easter.

It was made by Zoltán Papp. It's a náder pattern in stainless steel with stabilised maple covers.

The weather is bad here, so I can't take any good photos. But the knifemaker sent me some nice ones:
