I have to say that I do not like the use of etched blades by Fontenille Pataud these days. It's a step backwards, much like when GEC abandoned shields with their stag covered knives.

Totally agree, it's a dilution of standards, notice the prices have never been diluted either

Good thing I'm predominantly drawn to the laguiole. There are plenty of makers that still stamp their blades.

After going back and forth on my next French knife... I finally chose the barrel since it was one of the original ones that caught my eye.

This is the Sabot barrel in olive wood. I chose the olive because Will Power keeps showing off that beautiful opinel and I had to get ahold of something sporting that wood.

The olive wood on this one is attractive but pretty mellow looking. The covers are just slapped on there with minimal concern for fit. Other than that it's a pretty nice knife.

Put a little piece of leather in there to rest the tip on. I know that tidbit came from this thread so thanks for that!

A nice 1920s(ish) Ultra... Because I'm a watch nerd and it's from France as well. Besançon.
