Received this one from France a few weeks back and one side of the pivot pin had been sanded too much, making blade and handle loose. One of our resident knife modders accepted the challenge and replaced the pivot pin, this time making it domed. It still looks like it was meant to be that way from the original maker. glennbad glennbad , thank you!! You really made my day! Just in time for Traditional French Friday!

Thanks Charlie. Yes, the covers are horn, in this case buffalo. This knife was part of a limited release, commissioned by the FB group "Les Amis Du Couteau Laguiole." It translates into Friends of the Laguiole Knife.
Great Commission!! Nice to see fans of 'Couteaus' having an impact!!

A question for my connoisseur friends. What I was afraid would happen did indeed occur. Rather than satisfying me, my new Laguiole has wet the appetite. I am now shopping for another Laguiole, this time with wood covers. There are many options available, but I want something traditionally French. I am looking at knives in cade juniper, walnut, and burled boxwood. I am leaning towards the juniper, but I wanted to hear your thoughts first.

I don't believe there ever was a traditional Camembert knife, but this design was commissioned in 2007 to be the official knife of the village of Camembert. Mine is by Guy Vialis, in pistachio.

any idea where we can get this? Please PM if you know where. Thanks.

Yes, I say go with juniper. It can retain this wonderful scent for years and years. Typically handling a knife engages three of our senses. How awesome is a fourth!!!

I can recommend going with Juniper. I have 4 French knives - 2 Laguiole in different sizes a Capuchadou and a Le Chamois - all in Juniper and the wood combined with scent is great.

Basically handle is pressed local horn that looks greyish.
Mine is briar burl as I was a pipe smoker long ago. But like Haegar said, Juniper is great, name varies, génévrier or cade. Same wood.

Found this in a pawn shop years ago when I was just learning about Laguiole knives. I also liked the scene on it. Maybe someone can tell me who it is made by based on the logo? The mark looks like a flower. Basic Sandvik steel.

i also posted these pics of the mark hoping someone would recognize the maker. One with out a flash and the other with, the cool thing with the flash, it kind of made the writing of the initials appear more noticeable. Any idea of who or what company made it? Appreciate it.

I love the aroma of juniper!! And Boxwood delights me with its Light strength!!
I speak from a long-"wetted" appetite!!
Juniper, then Boxwood!
