A couple of beautiful knives from a famous Enabler!!Here are my two newest entrants for Traditional French Friday, thanks to the generosity ofÂchillepattada . Thank you again Jean-Marc!
The first is a 12 cm from Pierre Yves Joyeux with a carbon steel blade and boxwood covers. Though comparatively slim, this knife feels solid. I chose boxwood because I wanted this to be a more simple (looking?) knife that hearkened back to the laguiole's simple peasant origins. It has no guillochage and a very simple mouche.

This second knife is a gift from JM. 10 cm with a 14c28 blade and ebony covers, it is the smallest laguiole I've owned. I can't believe how much of a difference 2 cm makes in size.

Obligatory spine shot.

I'm going to enjoy using these knives. The only issue is sourcing some duck fat to rub on the Joyeux so it develops that beautiful, honey color.
'After careful chemical analysis, Duck Fat was detected in both Handles!!'![]()
Charlie, the Nontron on the right is everything you’d want in a knife . It’s got beauty, practicality, soul and history. Both of these older Blades are stamped, "Chaperon Nontron"!! The one on the right is an older knife!

It was also a gift, Alan!! I agree with you,Charlie, the Nontron on the right is everything you’d want in a knife . It’s got beauty, practicality, soul and history.
« Le vignoble savoyard » and Evian!? Isn’t that a little bit « Contradictoire »?!?
Beautiful ChristianA few years back I wrote that I want my knives to look like this someday.

I think I now have the pair to do it. With juniper and boxwood covers, they both should age gracefully.

Love what you did wity the handle, Gary.Humble Opinel #8 that I modified the handle so that it’s more squarish than rounded and now it doesn’t twist in my hand while using and boy does it cut!!!
