traditional knives in movies

Thanks for the link to the sports movie thing. I got 49 out of 50 (missed the BMX one). There were a couple others I wasn’t sure on, but process of elimination helped. For example, I’m pretty sure Gary Cooper wasn’t in Blades of Glory. 🤣
Congrats on your outstanding performance, Barrett!:cool::thumbsup:
I also missed the BMX one, and thought that 3 of the 4 choices seemed equally plausible as titles for a BMX film about which I was totally ignorant.
I also missed the wrestling one right before or right after the BMX movie (so I missed 2 in a row near the end :(). I think I guessed a wrestling movie that in retrospect was silly because I know that my guess starred Mickey Rourke. And I missed a hockey one with the photo of a guy lying face down.
You weren't sure of Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig? That's a GREAT movie! (And Teresa Wright as Mrs. Gehrig ... Hubba Hubba! 😲🤓).

A tribute video of The Orphan (1960), the last movie Bruce Lee acted in as a child actor, and right before he left Hong Kong and came to the US.

From 0:23 to 0:45, there are a few images from the movie of Bruce Lee, whose character is a juvenile delinquent, where he displays a pocketknife that looks to be a Barlow pattern. Decades ago, I saw a full body still pic from the movie in a magazine, where Lee was facing off against another kid with the same knife, which was a bit more visible in the pic. Even then, I felt the knife was a Barlow.

As a dad with two young girls, I can't tell you how many times I've been subjected to the movie Frozen, but today was the first time I happened to notice the traditional knife tucked into Kristoff's belt! I'm not an expert on Scandinavian knives, so I don't know if this would be considered a pukka, a leuku, or perhaps something else, but it does seem fitting for the character and setting. I do feel like I'd probably want it in a sheath, though, if I were dangling from a rope. 😁

My wife and I have been rewatching the earlier seasons of Stranger Things before starting the newest season, and I noticed this display board of camping knives with fork and spoon in the third episode of the second season.

I can’t tell for sure if the display card says “The Camping Knife” or “The Camper’s Knife.” I did a bit of Googling and couldn’t find an identical display card, but it could just be a prop made to look like a knife display card from the time period.

Well spotted Barrett  We're just re-watching Preacher  :D

Frozen is a very good movie. I remember when it first came out, my daughter was invited to a princess party. All the little girls were asked, which Disney princess is your favorite? My daughter replied, "Elsa, because she has superpowers."

👌

I was so proud.

Looks like a Saami knife to me. Check this out.

I'm always excited when this thread pops up, and it reminded me that I spotted these in a series called Night Sky I'm watching at the moment

I watched that show, but I missed that bit.

I liked how JK Simmons character kept a chunk of wood in the glove box of his truck for whittling while waiting for his wife. A much better use of time, although checking BF on the phone wouldn't be bad either.;)

Thanks, Jack. Preacher is one I’ve been meaning to go back and watch. We watched the first season and I think part of the second when it originally aired, but for whatever reason we never finished it.

Well done, Ken!:thumbsup: My Google skills are usually pretty good, but I couldn’t find that when I looked. 😁

I wondered for a second if that was the exact same display, and maybe they just put different knives on it, but the one in the show definitely looks like it has a fork where the one you shared has a secondary blade, so there must have been a slightly different version of that display card for the “hobo” version.

Made in Ireland is a helpful hint. Here’s an Imperial I found via Google that might be the knife from the show.

I used to have one, too, but I think mine had red plastic scales.

Wow, well-spotted, you have to really be looking hard to spot that. 🤠

Thanks, John! I usually keep a better eye out for traditional knife content the second time I watch something. 😉😁

That’s great! 😁

I saw the term Saami knife when I briefly searched about it, but never found a clear distinction between that and some of the other terms.

Saami knives are very similar to the puukko and the tollekniv. They are all from the same region of the world after all. The reason I think it's a Saami knife is the use of both antler and wood in the handle.

It's only a few weeks ago, and I've almost entirely forgotten it! That scene was the haul of stolen goods taken by the retirement home worker though

LOL! :D
