One can only wonder if Tom Hanks is a pocket knife person?
His characters so often display a pocket knife in the movies, it makes me ponder it.
Cool stuff on the table, Barrett!I’ve wondered the same thing, Carl. I do know that he’s a big typewriter collector, and I can certainly see how a person who’s into old typewriters could also be interested in old knives. Who knows?
Recently my wife and I were talking about movies we used to watch when we were kids (late 80s/early 90s), and one that we both remembered was Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (1991). The girls thought the movie sounded interesting, so I watched it with them today.
I spotted one old knife in the movie, just a quick glance at it on a bedside table. The knife is a bit out of focus, as well, so you can’t tell too much about it, but it appears to be a serpentine stockman (or other multi blade pattern) with rounded bolsters and some sort of white covers.

Cool stuff on the table, Barrett! In addition to the knife, I like the key and alarm clock. What's just to the left of the knife?
Is the movie the one about high-diving horses?

Comb with a fancy handle makes sense; thanks!I always like seeing those kinds of shots in period film. It’s like a vintage EDC pocket dump!I was trying to figure out what that was next to the knife, too. I thought it might be a comb (perhaps you can’t see the space between the teeth because of the angle?) but I’m really not sure.
Yep, that’s the movie.
First encounter between B.B. and Jeanne Moreau in the excellent Louis Malle's Viva Maria!

I've been warned that if I pause and rewind and pause and rewind one more scene with a knife I will no longer have a movie companion, the wife is very adamant about this.
Looks like an inexpensive shell handle serpentine jack, Imperial maybe.....Anybody recognize make and model? Looks nice... I'd consider it suitable equipment for being trapped in an unhinged portion of time and/or possibly space!![]()
I’m a little offended that you refer to my visual interpretations of the topology of the consciousness-cosmos interface as “maniacal scribblings”, but the knife is indeed a fine companion for those of us whose intellects operate on a higher plane than those of you who have not yet been contacted:Here's a shot from S01E06 "Book 74" of the horror/sci-fi series "From" which aired in 2022.
In this scene, one of the characters is obsessively scrawling the symbol seen in the shot - but look what's on the table next to his maniacal scribblings!!

Been there, done that, LOL.....What?
You think I need help cutting a piece of rope?
For me to get my wife to that point I would have to agree to watching project runway a few evenings a week with her,all with out me injecting my personal thoughts, and that is just not happening. My wife is so used to it that if she sees a closeup of a knife, watch, gun or pen that I don't rewind, she points it out.
