traditional knives in movies

C. Eastwood's True Crime

I believe I saw a Buck 110 used in "The Shadow Riders" set in post Civil War 1865? Either that or a facsimile which didn't exist in those days.
Katherine Ross slipped it out of her boot. Jeffrey Osterhage used it to cut his bindings. When it was stuck in the sand, looked like there was a second blade too.

So who’s mistake is this?

Producer, director, Sam Elliott?

I’ve often wondered who makes these decisions and who is responsible for errors.

At first the script-girl, supposed to remember of how the scene was shot and take pictures to help (say hi Polaroïd!), then the prop master (and crew) who provides the accessory choosed in accordance with the director's crew.
The producer only takes cares of cigare cutters. 😄

Don't forget the editors.
It'e too late when the rushes reach their hands. All must be fixed during the rehearsal, when the roll leaves the stage it is considered as def wrapped. Cost would be tremendous should they remake a scene just for a knife (except maybe if Mr Wayne yells about it, but, remember, he was also producer 😊 ). Movies are full of continuity errors, but noone (or very, very few) notice it. Sometime as huge as a spotlight. As they used to say : if spectators see it, the picture's no good!
If you look at the upper top part of old Hollywood movies (1/33 and 1/66) you will sometimes see the mike and even the kind of boom they used !
Same about wrong knife used, who else but us does notice?

I had to watch "Into the Grizzly Maze" last night...Thomas Jane, James Marsden, a couple of glamourous babes ( both of whom sprain ankles at vital moments...one in a snare the other impaled her calf on a stick.) Classic.
Special mention for massive overacting by Billy Bob Thornton and Scott Glenn ( who looked like he wasn't interested and only there for the money). And what grizzly movie is complete without Ursine megastar Bart...who usually plays the Bear?
Vital knife scene...involves them escaping in a boat ...inflatable of course so easily shredded by Bart...girls why didnt you get the engine going while you stood there watching Thornton ( who had already been horrendously mauled and disfigured miles back but somehow makes it to the beach in time to shoot at Bart 3 times before the empty click of the trigger. ??? Scott Glenn's head gets bitten in half.....and you still havent fired up the Evinrude....ffs.
Meanwhile Marsden and Jane double team Bart with the can of gas and flare gun trick encircling him with flames....which just seems to fire him up even more with some roaring ,snarling and baring of bloody fangs...or maybe it was the vision of the Babes huddling together on the beach ,shouting and squealing in terror...He charges through the flames and tries to drown Marsden in the shallows...where earlier they had all been catapaulted from the boat ...Luckily Marsdens hunting knife possibly a Buck landed just within desperate scrabbling reach of the exact spot he now finds himself in under the weight of Bart ....who now has his jugular exposed....and with one stab !!!? Bart ..who has already been shot several times ...rears up ,roars in pain and collapses dead....phew....cut to panoramic shot of mountains....
🤨😮‍💨😑

"Honeee? Wha'happened to the door of my station wagon?

...errrr It got headbutted by an enraged Grizzly Bear.

ON THE WAY HOME? FROM THE PUB?."

We were watching Troll 2 and in the beginning the main character attacks an intruder to her frozen abode/cabin using what looked like a puuko. It later turned out to be a friend from the first movie. It takes place in Norway and is dubbed in English, thus the puuko.
