Traditional Knives & Slingshots

I finally found a nice wooden (+G10) frame that my 3XL hands are comfortable with 🥰

That one will get 6090s :)

And .... here she goes. Previously shown 3060 for comparison to 6090.

I apologize in advance for the lack of pics (I swear I'm working on it) but I thought I would leave a tiny bit of first impression feedback on my just delivered Seljan Stylus Keeper Pro.

Very thin, compact frame and the band attachment was super easy. I put some therabands on it that I ordered from Fowler's website.

Alright, pretty excited so I better go shoot this thing! This will be my first time trying the gold bands rather than the black ones. Power level unknown, I just ordered the variety pack, haha.

Looks pretty nifty  How did you find it?
Any of y’all cast your own shot for ammo? I have a .313 round ball mold I use. It’s as much fun as shooting I think.
Good for you :) I used to cast my own bullets years ago, and I'd definitely be up for casting some balls I think

It shoots very well, as long as you have good form, haha. Very thin and pretty light. It's harder to shoot well than my Axiom but I'm getting used to it.

I banded it with some of the new gold bands I had, and they turned out to be a touch too weak for my taste. So I rebanded it last night and will try it out today and let you all know. I figured I would try different bands before I started trimming any length off.

Thanks for posting the pic, Jack! :)

It's always nice to have a challenge! :D It looks pretty good Taylor :) Good idea on the bands, be great to hear how you get on :) You're welcome, I just did a Google search, and got the pic from the Simpleshot site :)

Sciatica has kept me from getting out for several weeks, but I did a bit of plinking in the house last night (22ft is the longest straight run I have). I like the simplicity of this Sparrow, made by Simpleshot based on Zachary Fowler's hand-carved original. It works well for me, and I think it's pretty good value too

Morning. Just changed the band mount on these. This thing appears to shoot over 200 yards easily, but my previous mount (four dowels, see previous pic in post #362) had the bands slip after a couple of shots. (Holes where drilled for flat bands, no flexibility there ....)

What great pics! They have it all! :D  That both looks and sounds like a very nifty slingshot :) I've not used an offset frame. Great-looking Kephart too

Alrighty, I took the Seljan Stylus Keeper Pro (Simpleshot needs some catchier names for its frames IMHO) down to the river with the new bands to try it out.

What a difference. Advice for other new shooters: Take some time to get those bands just right. I've also been jumping frames a lot, which is pretty lousy for consistency, which is really the key to accuracy.

With the weaker bands I was getting lots of frame hits, but no more with this new set. I was hitting floating leaves and riverbank rocks in no time flat.

Earlier this morning I was "on the mooch" in my front yard. Some fox squirrels are busy divesting my oak tree of its acorns, so I had a go with the Axiom Pro. I missed but he sure did jump! 😁

Dang, forgot to be knifey! I was packin' a new SAK Hiker with hardwood scales. I have frequent opportunities to harvest new slingshot forks and the SAK saw is the perfect accessory for getting that done. Very helpful if you happen to be a branch carver as well.

Look what you guys did to me .... I think I have enough catapults for a while :) But, they all have their purpose. The three smaller ones are used with 3/8" steel, the heaviest one on the right is waiting for 1/2" balls that are in the mail.

That's a great pic! :D Very imaginative  What about a couple with flat-bands, and maybe something Old School with fat square rubber?! ;) 🤣

So, what ammo are you all using ? This is a 1/2" steel bearing, should be ~140 gr. I also have 3/8", which should be around 60 gr.

If I'm shooting in the house, I use plastic ammo, and depending on the location, and the slingshot, I either use clay balls, or steel ammo. I have some old 3/8", but all the vendors here seem to sell them in metric now, so I have various sizes, but generally use either 8.5mm, 9mm, or 9.5mm. I also have some big 14mm steel balls. Nice composition :)

I still don’t have my wrist rocket fixed, or any ammo cast. But when it is all working, it will put a .311 lead ball through a coke can. Some serious thump on them.
The first time I used one of those 14mm balls I have, (I'm useless with metric, but that's 'pretty big' I reckon :D), I fired it straight into the back of my hand!
