Traditional Knives & Slingshots

Still got my indoor 'range' set up :)

I been working on my slingshot still. Whittled it all to size, no saws. This is sugarberry tree. It’s related closely to hackberry and is in the elm family. It’s also harder than woodpecker lips.

Course I still got some refining to do and still need to groove the ends for bands. And still find bands and make a pouch.

I figure a pinch hold is my main, but also left the handle suitable for a traditional hold. Pretty comfy so far.

Hey, nice work 😎 Thanks for letting us have a look at it 😊👍

Y’all see how the tops of the forks are squared off? Should I round them some or do they work as well being squared?

I still got to fill that crack with epoxy. I’m thinking I’ll finish it too, maybe stain and polyurethane. I think I have some reddish stain. Might look pretty good.

And I’ll likely add a lanyard hole. Then I’ll have the fun of making that too.

I'd radius the band side top edge, at least. If for no other reason than to lessen the chances of cutting the bands at full draw. The wood is a bit harder than the rubber or silicon of the bands. Why take a chance of high stresses under expansion breaking the bands on a sharp corner?

Holy Cow, there is a metal Beanflip! I see myself cashing in some reward points here pretty soon, haha!

Very cool collection!
That Beanflip is new old stock found by Simple Shot, cast aluminum. More contoured and therefore thicker than the current Beanflip. Out of stock now. However, Simple Shot does have aluminum Beanflips available in the current get up. The Beanflip is my favourite Simple Shot slingshot.

I'm gonna try to stick to my Stylus Keeper Pro for a bit. I have a plastic Beanflip, and like it, but I prefer the SKP and the Axiom.

I've been jumping from frame to frame too much, and it is hurting my consistency.

I have been checking out the Pro Shot stuff! Shiny! Also working on a natural frame of my own.

I do that a fair bit as well Taylor, and I shoot many of them differently too

I have been very pleased with this Pro Shot version of a John Webb/Gamekeeper John design, a Pocket Poacher, with Occularis plugs

Got a new arrival today, with some heavy square rubber bands made for a strong-armed dwarf  Magazine is quirky to say the least, comes out about once a year, and is stuffed with adverts, and publicity puffs written (badly) by the same person. Usually a few nice pics, but little else 🤔
