I almost feel like I was paged to this thread Jack Black Jack Black . Two things I love, and also have a lot of! ;)

Mr Canuck sir, Crazy Canuck Crazy Canuck , I stand in awe. I don’t suppose you have a favorite?

What is the benefit of that style vs those with arm braces?

Here's one made out of a Figure 8 abseil device
That would be a figure 8 rappelling device for us Yanks…

I have a very funny story involving one of those - sadly I can’t tell it here without revealing aspects of my past life I swore I would never share publicly on line.

It’s probably not as funny as I think it is anyway. I suppose I could try it out on my youngest daughter and see… 🤣

No favourite. I like shooting them all depending on mood.

Main advantage of this style over arm/wrist braces is portability. The braces may provide more stability, but there’s something to be said for dropping a slingshot in your pocket.

I had a wrist rocket with a brace that came out of the bottom of the grip and hurt like hades to shoot. I might still have a flat wooden wham-o in the garage somewhere. I'll take a picture tomorrow of the sling bow I bought recently and a knife.

A couple of years ago, SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) mentioned that she wanted a slingshot. Naturally, I decided to make one for her. I procured the bands and pouch and commenced searching for just the right stick.

Then I realized why she wanted it. 😲

The project is on indefinite hold until I'm willing to be her target of choice.

It looks like most of them with flat bands are tied a certain way. Someone suggested go on YouTube, but I don’t YouTube much because I’m quite skeptical of getting bogus info. So do any of y’all have a channel or know of a video showing the tying of the bands to the body.

And, what’s the correct terminology for the body?

It looks like the bands are tied on the face side and then when fired, are stretched over the tops of arms and pulled to the back. I’m I seeing this right?

Whats the rubber you use JB? Jack Black Jack Black .
I had a go at making a sling..of the David n Goliath style a few years ago....got some power....and learnt to duck...😲🤕
I've got all sorts of stuff Jon, big fat round tubes, chunky square bands, looped tubes, slim round tubes, and all sorts of flatbands, which were originally made from surgical latex. There's new band rubber coming out all the time, but I started out with Theraband Gold. You need to match the bands or tubes to the ammunition you're using (I use various diameter steel balls, plastic balls, or clay balls, depending on circumstances). There are some cool Tod Cutler sling videos on the Tube :D
That is a fantastic idea! Now I want to make one...
You should definitely go for it.

Prehistoric (possibly predating the bow and the Neanderthal) through at least Medieval times for hunting and war.

Very cool
Where does one procure flat band and round bands?

Amazon? Online slingshot specialty store? Medical Supply store?
I've seen flat and round bands on Amazon, with or without the pouch.
There are lots of small makers and larger companies selling made-up band sets, or the materials to make your own, if you do an online search

You were definitely first in my thoughts Mike :)

Mike sent me several slingshots, and a load of band-sets and tubes a few years back  :)

Interesting slingshot Mike, and how you've attached the tubes
I still haven't used a Pickle Fork Mike, I'd be interested to know what your thoughts on them are :)
Fantastic pics, and it's great to see you at work my friend! :) That's an interesting style   I think this may be the only pic I have of me plinking :D

More great slingshots Mike, are you making them?
I've got the one you sent me right next to me now (bit of a pigeon problem at the moment)! :D

I should have spotted that! :D

LOL! :D I used to know the SBS guy who invented the 'Star Abseil', a joke, which was subsequently incorporated into training! 🤣

Mine was a Barnett Black Widow :D I had a lot of fun with it, but despite their relatively simple looks, the modern slingshots are much more accurate, as well as easier to use, you can get really good, very fast :)
I might have found this sooner, but I was sure it was bright aluminum.

Nice find :)
Hey! SlingSHOTS! Not ShotSLINGERS! 🧐😂
I've posted this in the guardians thread but may as well put it here. Wrist rocket I spent countless hours with a a kid. I've got a hankering for a proper pocketable slingshot now. I'll have to look around and see what I can come up with. Any recommendations on a solid piece?

Lots of good ones :) I like the Fowler Sparrow Simpleshot are making. It's really simple, and a lot of fun to shoot with :)

Yes, but you can also buy slingshots where you don't need to tie the bands, such as this one that Mike gifted me, which uses Simpleshot's Occularis system

You could do a lot worse than check out the Simpleshot channel

Frame :)

Yes, that's one way to shoot them (Over The Top - OTT)

It's just an attempt to follow the "Modern traditional" trend. What i've pictured is a slingshot with some additional features which make it work differently but serve the same purpose. A "modern traditional" slingshot. A bit noisy, i concede.

Dan.
You should check out JoergSprave's YouTube Channel! :D
