Traditional Knives & Slingshots

Here's a souvenir slingshot my wife got for Christmas from our daughter. (Daughter forgot to bring it with her when she came to visit at Christmas, so it actually arrived by mail late February or early March, I think.) I haven't used it yet, and I'm not optimistic about the amount of use it can take before falling apart. Anyway, I know almost nothing about slingshots, but I thought I should post it here "on principle". (I'll probably also post it in the Toy thread, since that's probably a more appropriate location for this particular jackalope slingshot.)

That's cool Gary! :D

Another one of these HDPE slingshots landed on my door-mat yesterday, only just spotted it! :D Another one of Gamekeeper John's classic designs, which I really like, and already have two versions, including one cast in aluminium. I'm probably going to give this one to a mate

I went out with this one yesterday, a version of Gamekeeper John's 'Bloodstopper'.

For some reason I'd cut the bands a bit long, so I sorted that out today, and re-banded these others at the same time, as well as sharpening and oiling my Hartshead Barlow

Sorry, Jack. Get better soon.

Note the bumps in the wood of my sling-shot (top right arm). Nice to have a thick G10 layer between the wood covers. I remember when I used to hit my thumb with a rock as a kid. Modern sling shot grips prevent that ....

Thanks Roland, it happened on my street! :(

Yikes! That's quite a fork hit! Glad that didn't hit your thumb! :)

Simpleshot convinced me to buy some clay-weight bands.

Totally necessary, because this little twin-tuber handles clay shot just fine.
I had to get two bandsets to feel better about the shipping.
But really, for $12, and with those quick-change clips, why not?
Good idea Jer  Have you fitted them yet? I haven't used the Simpleshot bands I've had supplied with their slingshots, as I find them a bit heavy. I buy after-market tapered bands from various manufacturers, usually Wasp. I've got some very light band set-ups on some of my slingshots, which I use to fire plastic ammo indoors, and clay ammo outdoors

The heavy double Theraband Gold bands came with a Gamekeeper John slingshot, but they're not only unnecessarily heavy, they're too short for me, so they'll be coming off

Nope, I just ordered them this morning.
I've seen rubber ammo, too.
If I knew a Lilliputian seamstress who works cheap, I would try sandbag ammo.
Hmm. How difficult could that be?
Pretty difficult, maybe.

Here's a few more band set-ups. A lot of old fellers they can't get hold of the heavy square rubber. I've found I can get hold hold of it, but compared to the newer flat-bands, it's absolute rubbish! Much the same with the re-cast Milbro catapults, most men of my vintage grew up with here. I was exciting myself, but even fitted with new rubber, they're not a patch on modern designs
