Traditional Knives & Slingshots

Is that the square rubber of which you spoke?
If we ever had that here, I missed it.
It's a modern version of it Jer. The old stuff was ubiquitous here on catapults, until the advent of wrist-rockets, and heavy rubber tubes. The old stuff perished with use and age, much like the tubes. There is still a demand for it, among older, nostalgic slingshot enthusiasts, and Gypsies, who have their own styles of catapults, but it is very hard to get hold of. I obtained a couple of sets of these square bands, but they are a more modern rubber. They're a bit short for me, and brutal to retract, so I've given them to someone else who is yet to understand the physics of modern band-sets! :D
When I was a kid, we could get large rubber bands similar to those in the left of Jack's photo. The mail carriers always had them and would leave a couple when they knew I was at my grandparents. That was half a century+ years ago though.
The simpler, better times
That's pretty cool, the postie is still my main source of rubber-bands, since I find them dropped on the door-step, or in the street! :D Those bands are actually silicone though (Theraband Gold), like the stuff hospitals use for injury rehab
I was distressed yesterday because I thought my clay ammo was dribbling out of the tiny pocket in my clay bands and disappearing with a tinkle. Turned out that much of it, at least, was hitting the cement block wall a foot below my catchbox and shattering.
Modern crap.
You're going to have to adjust your aim Jer! :p The light clay and plastic balls actually drop much less than steel or lead ammo. Try raising your draw point very slightly

Out of interest Jer screened porch screened porch , where do you have your catch-box situated? I mainly use a catch-box indoors, and so I use plastic slingshot ammo, rather than clay. Used in this way, plastic ammo last virtually forever, and is more accurate, and less messy than clay ammo. I mainly use clay ammo when I am at the back of my house, or in local woods and parks, where steel ammo is potentially unsafe. The main advantages of clay ammo are that it explodes, or at least substantially degrades, on impact, and goes back to being mud, it's very inexpensive, and won't break windows, or hurt stray dogs, but in most cases, the size and weight varies, and it's rarely completely spherical

Just been cleaning out my indoor catch-box. I have a lot of plastic Wasp ammo, so I don't have to do this very often. I lose the odd ball to the vacuum-cleaner, but that's about it ;)

It was in the basement. I noticed when I put things back in place that the shot had been hitting the wall instead of disappearing. (Even I can't leave a table lamp in the middle of my exercise floor.)
The plastic sounds a good idea for indoors.
Clay won't break a window? There's nowhere I want to test that.

I get mine from Wasp Jer, but I'm sure there are sources in the US :) I've hit my windows many, many times, when scaring off the pigeons in my garden, hit the back of my hand a couple of times too - no damage at all. It won't be long until every shot goes on target, but you still get ricochets
Very interesting thread, everyone. I will be purchasing my first slingshot since I was a kid. Rabbits in my garden beware. Will update when it is in hand.
Cool Jer, you'll need some steel or lead ammo for the rabbits

I went ahead and ordered the screws from Simple Shot.
Good thing I wasn't too cheap to do the delivery insurance, because I've got it going to the wrong house.
Oh no! Hope they get to you ok Jer 🙂👍

I went to get my first sling and no one can deliver to New Jersey!!!😠 So my daughter is buying one from simple shot and mailing it forward.
You can buy guns, knives and marijuana legally here, but not a sling shot!?!

I emailed them immediately.
I started typing my address, then clicked on it when it popped up. Looks like somebody across the street is also a SiSh customer.
Lesson learned.
Maybe you'll have someone to go plinking with Jer

That's crazy! o_O It seems particularly bizarre, considering how easy it is to MAKE a slingshot!

Can you get blowguns?
Folk in CA., NY. (at least NYC), and a few others can't. MA. might be another "blowgun and slingshot free" state. ☹️
Pretty sure Chicago, ILL. still bans both, too. Not sure if Chicago still bans knives outside the home, certain work places, and for exempt occupations, such as police and fire dept. staff.
When I "lived" in CA. in the mid and late 1970's (I left in 1980) blowguns and slingshots were not allowed. It  was legal to have a Western L66 on your belt, however. That was my EDC my last year there. 🙄

Personally, I'd rather see "Free (good) Blowgun and Slingshot" states/counties/cities. 😁

I like your priorities. Just checked, blowguns are illegal in New Jersey also.☹️

They corrected my address before shipping. They're pretty alert over there.

Blowguns were legal here until I was around 20, then they were banned, no idea why 🤷‍♂️

First they came for the blow-guns, now it's the straws!;)
