Traditional Of The Month: Sodbuster

Out and about today, stopped off at a walkin path to eat my lunch. I think mine secretly wants to be a mossbuster lol

Had a little more time to kill, decided to chop this tree down with it and then figured why not baton the stump?

I think it did a great job with the tree:D guess after that its not a far strech to say it could make a marshmallow stick or fishin rod holder

I am also liking the simple lanyard I put on it. I think me and my mossbuster/tree slayer will get along just fine this month.

I picked up an AG Russell Rancher a couple weeks ago, I think I'll use this one.

My only sodbuster, a RR with linerlock in tortoise shell acrylic, is a vampire.
It bit me the day I got it!

I'll kick off my Soddie month with whats been riding in my pocket the last few weeks, the GEC Bullnose Redneck in orange. It's going to hit the shelf the rest of the month since I'm going to try to carry a different soddie everyday. Here is a bad picture I snapped of it before it went to work on my apple.

Great pics so far, looking forward to seeing some soddies this month!

Thank you guys, for posting those nice GEC Sodbusters. I like the shape somehow...

These two were with me... Barlow month not long gone, so it was allowed to follow me

The simple construction of a Soddie is great - somehow an archaic piece of cutlery.

Kind regards
Andi

I've had the GEC in my pocket the past couple days. I get to carry one a week.

Today I'm carrying a knife I received in the mail last week from the Netherlands. Its a new production H.Herder(Trumpf-As Messer) Now, I'm not sure if it's made in Germany even though the place I bought it from states it's made in Solingen. I say this for two reasons, first, it looks almost identical to the Kissing Crane Brown Mules/Antonini Maniaghese knives, which are made in Italy. The other reason, there is no stamp etching or marking on any of the three H.Herder knives I received indicating origin, just a sticker that says "Original Trumpf-AS Messer H.Herder" with a Spade on the sticker. This one, which is the middle sized one of the three, is the only one of the three that had anything on the blade. The etching is two foxes with swords and the words "Berufsmesser Molybdanstahl- Original Hand Abzug". From what I can tell Berufsmesser means "farmers knife" and the Molydanstahl might be the steel type or manufacturer. I think Abzug means copy so this would translate to original hand copy? Maybe it means hand made. Either way it has good walk and talk and is carbon steel, a real nice knife for the $25 bucks I paid for it with shipping. Here is a couple of pics, it helped me cut apples & oranges today for the kids.

I just got my yellow CV Sodbuster Jr. I have to say that I'm not all that impressed. Lots of blade wobble - although some generous whacks with a rubber mallet took care of (most of) that. Horrible wire edge. And the handle slabs aren't even - one side looks like it was sanded down more than the other. These aren't really complaints though. It's as much as I expected from a $20 knife from Case, and bought it to use/abuse and let get ugly. I haven't yet decided if Ill force a patina, or just let it naturally develop.
