TRASH1 in SR101 OH YEAH!

If busse wrong to you is always good.... You defend him with too patriotic spirit and zero critical. In the email they does not even apologize for the inconvenience. Instead I remember very well what happened when the zt made a similar error...

At least someone has noticed that it is lowered the quality of the finishes and the Steel in recent years?? The basic 8 seems the Chinese copy of the 7 or 9. Some of them were even crooked.

And I'm so sorry to say, because the Busse knife were my absolute favorites... The older models, are still some of the best knives ever made. But lately I see only errors and continuous declines in many ways. With all due respect, that's exactly what I think and I saw.

I'm failing to see where anyone was really inconvenienced by this. They're offering a better quality steel at a discounted rate. Where is the error? If anything too few customers were interested in 1095 and they "kicked it up a notch" and offered better steel for the same price as 1095.

I've not experienced any issues with quality of the steel or finishes on any recent Busse/Bussekin blades I've bought. A five or six years back, I had a minor finish issue on an ASH-1 they corrected for free and gave me a shop credit for my inconvenience of shipping it to them. That impressed me a great deal and has kept me coming back.

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but in my experience with these brand(s), they take great care of their customers and make great products.

Exactly. What some see as an "inconvenience" I see as a fortuitous situation for Busse customers who care to take advantage of it. And if someone's heart was set on a 1095 knife, Lord knows there are plenty of them around from excellent makers to choose from. So I don't see the problem.

Perception is everything, I guess . . .

I've been resisting, but not sure I can in Sr101!

I'm still kicking my self I did not nab an 1111, or 1311

Especially when a $30 profit is baked in if you buy it right now. ;)

If changing the Trash 1's alloy to SR101 and keeping the price the same doesn't push folks over the fence who were sitting on it when it was offered in 1095, I don't know what will . . . well, with the possibility of a single individual who would rather harbor a resentment than buy an SR101 Trash 1 at a discount.

PS: Over the course of time, I've found that resentments don't cut very well . . . except the person who carries them, that is.

No one is inconvenienced because no one has paid for theirs yet. If someone is angry they can email Renee and she will cancel the order (and hopefully bump us all up). They probably did some final testing and saw that the SR101 was needed to keep their reputation strong...fine by me. I didn't get the BG ASH1 because I love Res-C for users, now I'll be getting one..er two

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with getting SR 101 instead of 1095. That's like getting steak at hamburger price.

Really don't see how getting a better steel is an inconvenience, especially at a lower price. Nor have i seen any lowering of quality in the regular Busse offerings. Instead i've seen very consistent grinds and finishes. Improved edge geometry and sharper edges out of the box.

Also I wasn't interested in the trash1 in 1095 however in sr101 i ordered right away. None of the knives I've had in 1095 from some very good companies with great heat treats could hold a candle to the performance in sr101.

None of us know what happened... Maybe there was a problem when the steel came back from HT. They found an issue, they fixed the issue.
I also don't get what you're so offended about... You can either (A) get the same knife in a better steel, or (B) you can call/email SY and cancel your order.

Excuse me for saying so, but I think is not cool at all ... demonstrates a lack of professionalism, lack of adequate testing before the listing of the knife... and finally a 1095 that is probably not up to the other American brands that use it. This is my thoughts ... in your place I would feel teased, and i will ask for a refund, or at least I wish it was given this opportunity to all who have ordered.

By the way this is the original e-mail:

The TRASH 1 Will Not Be Made Out Of 1095 ! ! !
This is exciting NEWS for all of you Scrap Yard SR-101 lovers.
1095 steel has never been able to match the performance of SR-101 across the board in terms of Edge Holding, Impact Resistance, and Lateral Strength.
It can do well in any of these three categories, but it cannot excel at all three at any single hardness like SR-101 does.
Therefore, plans to make the TRASH 1 out of 1095 have been scrapped! It will, instead, be made from our legendary SR-101 steel.
All of you who have ordered a TRASH 1 will be receiving the SR-101 steel at no additional charge!
For those who have been waiting to order, we will extend this offer for approx. 72 more hours.

After this window closes, the TRASH 1 made from SR-101 will be priced at $169.95.
You just saved $30.00 and ended up with the Yard's premiere performance steel!

Just a bunch of excuses to justify the error....

Your thoughts = unsubstantiated claims. Assuming "lack of adequate testing before the listing of the knife... and finally a 1095 that is probably not up to the other American brands that use it." these are the reasons for the change in steel is most likely false.

Not sure the reason for your issues here unless you're not understanding something clearly. This is a GOOD thing for those who have already placed orders, and even better, Busse is leaving the upgraded steel at the original price for a period of time to allow others in on the deal.

How is any of this bad?

And excuse me for saying so, but "lack of professionalism" seems way out of line. Busse has made a pre-production change that you can take advantage of or not. You're not out of pocket.

Your post makes zero sense.

Jerry got a new batch of JWB and came to his senses had Dan drop the 1095 and use the SR-101 (Happy Days!!!) now they are dumping all the 1095 bar stock so it will never come up again for discussion....SR-101 from the yard is a GOOD THING...

You have been given the "opportunity", genius. If you don't want better steel, at the same price....cancel your freaking order!! ( if you actually have a pending order, otherwise you should just shut your pie hole) I'm generally not terribly obtuse, but I'm having a difficult time grasping your whiney complaint.

I was excited about trying the 1095 and had ordered one, I was more excited about getting the SR101 at a great price and ordered another.

The news re: the change to SR101 didn't upset me in the least. It was the tipping point which caused me to stop vacillating and put in my order this morning. ;)
