TRASH1 in SR101 OH YEAH!

Tip strength is my guess. I have broken several 1095 blades. No need to name names of companies. I have seen tons of videos and pictures of 1095 blade tips gone or the blades completely snapped in two. After all, my frustration with this is what led me to Busse Knife Group in the first place. IMHO, 1095 just cannot hold up to the possible abuse we as hogs are known to provide.

The problem I have with this is, and don't get me wrong i'm a Scrapyard fan! In the first place Dan said that they got more out of 1095 then anyone else were able to so far( Esee? ). Then suddenly a change back to SR-101 because of better all round performance? I think they got a poor response and had to change back to SR-101 because that's what the majority wanted. Just my thoughts.
Yep, I had the same thought. But at the end of the day, I also think Jerry couldn't pull the kind of performance out of 1095 he felt he needed to achieve. And let's face it . . . SR-101 is a VERY tough act to follow. So that was that.

From the email......"It can do well in any of these three categories, but it cannot excel at all three at any single hardness like SR-101 does". This leads me to believe that maybe the cost effectiveness of doing a differential heat treat just wasn't there.

I dunno... This far into the process I still think when they got the first batch of blades back from HT it didn't meet the Busse performance tests.

Got them back from heat treat? Is it not done in house?

I'm guessing the same though. 1095 couldn't measure up in one way or another.

Yep. But we need to give it up to Dan and Jerry for at least trying to get 1095 in the same ballpark, Tom. It would have been cool if they had pulled it off if for no other reason that to watch the feathers fly. ;) :D

It would have been cool....I wanted to give one a good workout just for my own peace of mind...I know what SR-101 can do and INFI can do both GREAT was hoping the 1095 might show some Magic....but alas not to be so I will stick with the SR-101 and I'm HAPPY!!!

Wasn't excited about 1095 but ordered one after the change. When I ordered it said made with INFI. I can dream

As good as 1095 is and I do love the stuff ... Just ask visa and they can tell how much I have spent on it... I do love Busse sr-101... Can't wait to test the trash 1 against my Becker bk12 ... Similar blade designs..very different handles and different steels ... Rowen heat treat is amazing but it will still be a uphill challenge for the bk12.i love Becker handles but the res-c feels more grippy and comfortable which is a lot to say considering my love for Becker but the steel will be the turning point... How much abuse/use will each blade hold up to and still be sharp and useful ... 1095cv is tuff stuff without a doubt... I have beat the living snot out of it without issue... But sr-101 just does all the same just a little easier. Once I get my trash 1 I will do a video comparison .

Why do awesome things like this happen when I'm strapped and need to sell blades? Dangit. Oh well. Secondary market it is.

My opinion is that the 1095 would have been very awesome and perform extremely well, but I think this may have been more of an image issue. Busse is known for being top of the heap, and comparisons were being made that wouldn't normally take place when 1095 was on the table.

But those who really know aren't likely to share, so it is what it is.

I'm just happy to be getting some res-c ASH1 SR101 goodness!

It's dangerous for me to see you write those words... You always have awesome stuff to sell.

I was too slow on the draw this time though..

As of 4:19 a.m. West coast time the Scrap Yard Trash 1 is advertised as Infi on the .com

Man given that I called out the free Busse mistake from when I ordered a SOB, and now the Trash 1 coming in Infi mistake, I feel like I ought to be an honorary employee privy to some of the upcoming Busse/Kin goodness....or maybe Busse could just make some sweet ass stickers and send me one....or sell me one...

Where did you see the TRASH 1 advertised as INFI? I just looked on the Scrap Yard site and it clearly states SR101. The price is now listed at $169.95. No matter, I did not order the TRASH-1 in 1095 because I already had a 1095 knife with very ASH-like characterists - a differentially heat treated Tops Silent Hero. However the second I got the email saying that the TRASH was going to be SR-101, I went to Scrap Yard and ordered one. Absolutely an no-brainer, even though I already own 2 ASH-1's. I cannot fathom why anyone would feel cheated by having 1095 steel replaced by SR-101. Just unbelievable. If it irks you that much, get a Silent Hero. A good knife for sure, but it's no Busse.

There was a brief period (probably a couple hous) when the SY site had the blade steel listed as Infi. Obviously a typo which wad quickly corrected. Also obvious that some of us have nothing better to do with their time.
