TRASH1 ON THE SYKCO net

Yeah that scared me I still need to order a Kill Devil...
With all this new "limited release" stuff I'm finding it hard to pass on anything so far.

WoW.....differentially HT'd this could wind up being INFI without the stain resistance....Just WOW!!!!

That's a sweet thought. But no 1095 blade is capable of giving INFI a run for its money. What a Busse diff-tempered 1095 blade could do, however, is give every other production manufacturer making 1095 blades a run for theirs. Only question is, short of stripping a Trash 1 and looking for the hamon, how are we going to find out whether the Trash 1 really is diff-tempered?

I will probably strip one of them and throw it on my RC Tester and put some extra diamond dimples in obvious places see what I can find....Break out my Chief Inspector Clouseau magnifying glass look for some clues.....:D

I would still put through hardened SR101 above diff hardened 1095. This is from my own experiences with the steels again having not yet tried Busse 1095 I would still blindly bet on SR101 across the board.

I'm In! All I know is it's too good to pass up for the price, and should be a great user!!!!

Well I have some SR-101 CGASH's coming so I can see a side by side test against the 1095....

Now if Jerry does what he normally does with his steels and puts the edge at 59 but the spine closer to 50 you will get custom level 1095 performance at a production level cost.

While this had been done on a few Swamp Rat models some years ago, it would not be true to characterize this as what Jerry 'normally' does.

Yep . . . as I gleefully hug my diff-tempered SR101 Camp Tramp. ;) :D

True that. I can't remember the last time Jerry diff-tempered SR101. I'm thinking maybe it was the Ratweiler. But don't hold me to that . . .

So back to the question at hand. Is the Trash 1 through-hardened or diff-hardened? Curious minds want to know. :)

That's a question that perhaps only Dan or Jerry can answer??!!! ;)

AND....That Camp Tramp is an excellent blade...

Or anyone willing to strip the blade and take a look. But if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably through-tempered. Diff-tempering wouldn't really give the Trash 1 a "trashy" appeal. That's not to take anything away from it, of course. And it's all the more reason to test it against other production 1095 knives out there. I doubt any of them are diff-tempered either. Apples to apples and all that.

Yes it is. It's the blade that first brought me to BF and I'm glad I still have it. :)

I have no data, but suspect that SR stopped using differential hardening when they analyzed warranty claims on through hardened blades vs differential, and determined that the extra production cost wasn't worth it in the long run. There is sometimes no need to overengineer a product by a large margin.

Right. I don't have any data either. The only thing I know is that SR stopped doing it for a reason. Whatever the reason was, it's good enough for me. :)

I believe the MO Regulator had the DHT
Also is 1095 easier to sharpen than SR101?
