TRASH1 ON THE SYKCO net

At a quarter inch thick it shouldn't need to be differentially heat treated. Unless you really try you won't break it. In addition to my Busse stuff I have four Esee, two of which are 5s. They are extremely durable knives at 1/4 inch thick saber ground.

Does anyone know for sure if these are differentially heat treated?
No. Nobody knows for sure if these are differentially heat treated. But then, nobody knows for sure if they're through hardened either. In fact, nobody knows exactly how they're hardened . . . except the folks at Wauseon, that is. ;)

I don't think we'll know how well Busse 1095 performs until it's put up against what has arguably been the leader in heat-treating 1095 up to now . . . Rowen. Having said that, I have enough confidence in Jerry's heat treat that I'd buy a Trash 1 on spec before I'd buy an ESEE 6. After all, when was the last time Jerry introduced a steel that didn't outperform?

As for me, I'm waiting for the Youtube videos of the Trash 1 vs the ESEE 6 to surface. I realize the Trash 1 uses thicker stock than the ESEE 6 (1/4" vs 3/16"), but I still think they're close enough to provide some pretty close performance comparisons. I know there are a lot of Busse folks who own ESEE knives, so I figure it's only a matter of time before the comparos begin. Only question is, who's going to compare them first?

Can't remember where, but I read somewhere where Jerry Busse commented on 1095, ESEE knives and may ha e even called them decent. I'm digging through everything Busse I have ever read trying to find it. I agree somwhat about being curious to see a side by side comparison of Busse and kin 1095 and other companies designes. I just wonder what the criteria would be. Busse and kin stuff cat take a better beating as far as I have seen.

So are you planning to get a Trash 1? If you are, you might be just the right person to test it against the ESEE products you own. :)

I love Esee 1095, Esee knives are what got me back into knives and led me to Busse. I'm ordering a couple and looking forward to using them beside my Esee 5 and 6's.

Change "using them beside" to "comparing them to" and you've got a rapt audience in me! :)

I believe the MO Regulator had the DHT
Also is 1095 easier to sharpen than SR101?

The only Regulators that had the DHT were the full flat ground ones, like the test team and limited editions. I believe there were some double cut ffg regs, too. By the time the MO Regulators came around the DHT was gone.

No, I wasn't planning on it. I think the TRASH 1 is more like an ESEE 5 than 6, and I have two 5s so that niche is more than filled for me. I don't think I'm the guy for that sort of test, anyhow. Like I said earlier, a 6" long, 1/4 inch thick saber ground blade isn't going to fail unless you force it to. The 5s have proven to be way more than tough enough for my needs. No testing needed for either, they'll work fine. Now, for a guy who doesn't have this sort of knife yet, they are priced very competitively with the ESEE 5, and maybe some folks like the res-c handle more than micarta? I'm guessing the TRASH 1s are super value for money when viewed in this light.

Still have an ESEE 3. Had that since 2011.

I just checked, and they're still there. Did you click on "Shop Tomahawks"?

Ahhh I see that now, I guess they just cleaned up the site a little because they were on the same page with the knives as well as the hawk link. Sorry to alarm everyone!

The Res C handle is what got me one the Trash1, I passed the BGASH even though I had the funds. I'm looking foward to beating the piss out of Jerry's 1095...I really mean to absolutely thrash the Trash1, for the price I should order a 2nd but then I might miss out on funding an SOB or whatever is next to drop.

I just put in 24 hours of overtime this week, I see even more Busse/Kin in my near future, here is to hoping my Hog, Rat, and Dog all arrive soon.

No room$ at the inn due to BGAD timing! Maybe if it's still up in a month...

I am liking the price point on some of these recent releases. I'd been mulling over the idea of picking up an esee Junglas to keep in the truck because it wouldn't hurt so bad if it ever got stolen. Might have to wait and see if any new choppers come out.

I'm definitely getting one to try out. I tried hard to like the ASH1 but the handles just aren't for me. I bet the Trash1 will be a good fit for me and a steal at that price.

$140 is an easy gamble for me when it comes to a Busse kin :)

Dangit all, now I might need to order another to strip down.... Anyways-

I'm glad to see that the first place people look to for competition in 1095 is from Rowen's ESEE, but I may be a bit of a fanboy. I don't think KaBar's treatment of it is a slouch at all though, I love me some Beckers too. I'll be very interested to see how the TRASH compares with the 5, I think those are really valid comparisons. I'd throw the BK-2 in the mix for sure though. Much different price points obviously, but the knife blade is obviously not the entirety of the production cost.

From one of the most grand high poohbahs of ESEE, this is what Mr. Sir Jeff Randall had to say when the topic got brought up on the ESEE forum-
"Busse will do a good job on their 1095. It will be good stuff."

I get a bit misty when competing people get along. Shows a lot of class.

Yes I too saw Jeff's post (and I too am a fan of ESEE). ESEE and Busse(&kin) blades are all I recommend to people.

Its a crying shame the website does not work to order one of these. Consistently required an tele. when one has been given. This is a clear subliminal message for me to stick with Esee.....
