Trio Thursday

Thanks Phil. I will post some more pics soon. It is really something to hold in your hand. It is very small. It like what Andy said about the runt " Its one of those knives you hold in the palm of your hand and stare at". I really like the looks and feel of it so far but I haven't used it yet as it just arrived earlier today.

I love green handles!!!!!

I love green handles too! Great selection there. The old school BC rocks and I hope to have an Esquire soon.

Hey Tod,

If I'm not mistaken I believe I got to hold your little beauty soon after it had been shaped by Andy. It was still in its rough hewn stage. It now shines after the final sanding & finishing. That is one awesome little knife !

I'm heading to the mountains. Planning on doin' me some whittlin' with this trio. (ps: I could really use a Fiddleback Forge Patch)

That's a sweet, efficient looking setup Nathan!

What kind of pack is that?

Speaking of missing a Fiddie patch, Cody and Iz may say you're missing some knives ;)hehe~

Thanks Josh. It's a Hill People Gear Highlander. Normally used as a compression panel on their larger packs, but can also put the harness on it and I use it as my day hiking pack. You can find a review I did of it here: Day Hiking Rig: HPG Highlander with Kifaru Pullouts

I've got Iz covered on knives. Still working on grabbing my first from Cody. :)

Close. It's the Highlander. I make it look like a Tarahumara though when I wear it. :)

Gah, I wish I had that problem. At 5'1 it is impossible to find a pack that isn't either too small for what I need to carry or is just way too big for me. I am constantly on the search for a good pack that isn't too wide, which is a pain in the butt for trekking through dense jungle, but fits me and what I want. So far the Kifaru Urban Zippy is doing a pretty good job. How do you like the HPG stuff? I've heard nothing but good things but have yet to try any. Was seriously considering some of their straps to add to the Kifaru Scout.

Edit: Speaking of size limitations, any experience with the Mountain Serape? Again, because of my size it's almost impossible for me to get one that doesn't drag the ground like an over sized dress lol.

HPG is awesome stuff. Evan and Scot Hill are the brothers behind the company and are a great couple of guys. I've been able to hang out with them at a few of their gatherings they do and checkout all the gear. I'd recommend grabbing their shoulder harness to put on the Kifarus. I haven't tried the Serape myself, but both Evan and Scot were using them when we were camping. I'm guessing based on seeing it on them that it would be pretty big on you. It might work in great coat mode?

One of the cool things about living in Colorado is being local to HPG and Kifaru and some other cool companies. Next time you're in the states, head up here and we can check 'em out.

I might take you up on that. I was hoping to get the Jeep out to Ouray and then grab Imogene Pass over into Telluride. I try to stay out of Colorado because I could spend months just wondering around the Four Corners area.

I decided on this trio for an overnighter in the woods tomorrow. I was tempted to take my Vic Spirit instead of the Enzo but I know I'd just feel naked without some scandi-sharpness.

nice trio goober, is that the wildlife hatchet you got there?

Thanks, & no, that's the GB mini hatchet. It fits in the rear pocket of my jeans!

I cheeped out on the regular size hatchet & got a Husqvarna hatchet instead. It's not bad, but the blade geometry on the GB is miles ahead so I kinda regret getting the Huskie now. I save about half the energy even with my mini GB when cutting through limbs up to about 3".

Here you can see the size difference with a regular size hatchet, the handle on the Huskie is about 15"
