Can you tell I like drop-points?

New tools!

Liam Hoffman camp hatchet + sandblasted kephart & HB. Note, IMO I'm finding that the grip on the sandblasted micarta is pretty freaking spectacular!

I am definitely looking at this hatchet through new eyes! I love this trio overall. The sandblasted micarta is great.

Some great additions today from you guys with Phillip’s slate blues, Goober’s drop points, and Tod’s old school forged tools. There is a lot of interesting diversity there.

Here is another shot of three recent ones of mine: ASP, Hiking Buddy & Runt

"Nice family photo Peter. I have the Patch and Leuku, but no Recluse. Do you have a favorite out of your group?"

Phil:

I have developed a fondness for this profile overall......my favorite.....not shown is a Recluse 5/32" TT that was acquired for me by a friend at Blade Show 2014.

Phil:

Every time I see that smoke filled Asp I get lost in the handle.....that's a beauty. Also very jealous of these photos with fall leaves !

That is a glow in the dark shadetree. The exact color was not specified in the original sales thread from 4/22/11. It is definitely my favorite color from shadetree. I wish they would make more!!

I love that evergreen commando runt. Have you had a chance to use it much? Any thoughts?

I haven't been inclined to get a runt, yet, ;) but if you ever want to let that one go, let me know. I can't resist the evergreen shadetree and black pins.

M4 - love the slate. I'll agree, the EDK is my favorite of that trio, but they're all awesome.

GB - how could we get tired of looking at that boot? And the Spyderco Bushcrafter is a great knife.

I apologize, but I couldn't pass up the trio opportunity!!!

Why exactly are you apologizing? :)

All in the family....Leuku, Recluse & Patch:

Great looking family. I'm really needing (yes, needing) a Recluse and Leuku.

My trio for today: Bark River Kalahari Sportsman, Bushcrafter, and Barry Wood Mk1 folder

The Bushcrafter needs no introduction here. This particular one is 1/8” O1 with a tapered tang and Oreo (black) Shadetree burlap over natural and white pinstripe. It is my lightest Bushcrafter at 4.8 ounces.

The Kalahari Sportsman is the first Bark River knife that I have purchased in the last year. I have been looking for a nice stainless filet knife for a while when this model was announced months ago. I pre-ordered one through a dealer with Shadetree coconut fiber over a thick white liner. I was going for a cracked open coconut look with the shell over the white meat. When that knife arrived, it didn’t live up to my expectations due to a couple of manufacturing flaws. I notified the dealer (DLT Trading) that it didn’t live up to my expectations and they asked me to return it. They tried to get it fixed, but it just wasn’t meant to be. They offered me a refund or another knife, so I chose the black carbon fiber. This knife is very well made from the handle contouring to the blade grind and razor sharp edge. The design is excellent and S35VN is a good steel choice. I am very happy with this knife.

The last of my trio is a Barry Wood Mk1 folder. I have read about these knives for years, but never seen one in person. I found it in a display among many used knives at a nice gun store that I had not visited in quite a while. This knife is probably 40 years old give or take. The unique thing about this knife is the way it is opened or closed. The opposing handle scales are rotated 360 degrees around the large pivot pin to open or close. The handles lock together with a detent pin that is very secure. This locking system makes it impossible for the blade to fold up on you accidentally. This knife wears black micarta scales and shows a little pocket wear that tells me that this was a cherished user by the previous owner. I am sure that he would be happy to know that another “knife guy” is going to enjoy using it and take good care of it.

Phil

Very diverse trio Phil.....really enjoyed hearing the back stories and find that BW Mk1 folder fascinating......what kind of steel is it crafted from ?
