Trio Thursday

yeah, I thought the head cover and the handle looked pretty new compared to the head. Yeah, I always go back and forth between the merits of carrying an axe and/or handsaw. At the end of the day, I carry both because they have their own merits, and an Axe, despite the weight, is so darn fun to use (though I may have found an awesome compromise for 3 season use in my GB Outdoor axe which is essentially a hatchet with the best splitting power I've seen for its size).

Here's the trio that I'll be using next week.

I love those cold steel shovels. Very handy and fun too. We sometimes throw them into old stumps like throwing knives. A few of the teens I work with could get three full rotations and have them stick. The non rotating throw is fun too. There is just something so satisfying when you can get one to stick. The weight of the shovel makes it even better. I saw on a youtube video a guy had one stuck in the ground at the distance of one rotation from a stump. He kicked the handle, it did a full rotation and stuck in a stump. I was with a buddy and decided to try it. I looked over at him and said "hey, watch this" thinking there was no chance in hell. By the luck of the gods it actually did a full rotation and stuck in the stump. My toe hurt like hell but my friend still talks about it to this day. :)

5/32" Leuku + 1/8" 'muk trio I've been running the past two weekends in the park. Pretty much the best combo I've used to date IMO  (bow saw not pictured)

Good stuff Will. I like that Leuku. Wouldn't mind a Wave either.

I think when I finally narrow down my standard trio, I want a matching set like you have here.

i'm a big fan of my shadetree trio. Not gonna lie though, i havent had the cajones to use the hunter yet :)

I haven't had a chance to use this one yet, but should be a lot of fun. The edges were pretty rough so I touched them up and it's plenty sharp now. That's cool about getting it to stick. Typically my "hey, watch this" moments end up with bandages or stitches.

BTW, that shovel does look quite fun Nathan! I'll surely need to check one of those out! Glad to see the hunter made the cut for your trip ;)

After seeing some guys with these and other shovels using them instead of a hatchet for limbing branches and chopping stuff up while I was out in Missouri, I had to have one. Plus now I can give my wife back her gardening shovel which was serving double duty as the coal and ash shovel while camping. So I had the perfect excuse. And their pretty cheap.

I'm looking forward to some time with the Hunter. I'm sure it'll shine.

I like how the thicker white pinstripes outline the shape of the handles......the burlap on that Camp almost looks 3D......awesome set up Will !

Great set Will. I love the burlap and the RLo sheath setup is SWEET!

Love the burlap look on the sheaths, xxwjtxx, and the burlap handles aren't bad either. :D

Great looking set of trios and duos Will! Props for your ability to acquire matching models like that :)

Looks like they've all been loved, would love to hear some stories and thoughts on their use as combos.

Josh

Happy Thursday! Just locked in my next trip (in 2 weeks), so I was pulling out some gear and decided to snap a few pics ;)
