Trophy Room - Hunting and Fishing Pics

Here is a pic from a few weeks back. Me on the right my brother on the left and my brother n law. Bad pic but a good day hunting. Brother n law and I belong to a hunt club. My dad passed away 2 days before this pic and the reason my brother was up from TX. With his passing I lost my best outdoor partner:(

Riz has a video somewhere of him filleting a couple of rainbow trout. He's pretty damn skilled with his.

I'm headed for a three day trip to central Texas with my son and my father. My father and brother in-law are on a wildlife management place. My nephews and brother in-law will be there Saturday. Hope its a blast. (No literally! I hadn't got anything all year.)

Bringing the edc4, 3.5, and hiking buddy. I'll be happy to get anything. Even hog.

Wish us luck.

Good luck man! I know in most parts of central tx, you won't have any trouble seeing hogs. My parents live outside of Temple/Waco and hogs are literally everywhere out there.

I lived in Waco, Elm Mott, and Beverly hills (not the awesome place where everyone's imagining) for several years. We're headed to Evant this weekend.

Really sorry for your loss man. It will be the same for me some day, my dad is my hunting partner. He's a tough old guy, still running his own trap line at 78 years of age. :) I know it won't last forever and am trying to make the most of it.

Well I got to take tiny_toothpick on his first hunting trip. We didn't get anything, but we had a blast. Seen some turkey, several bucks and a bunch of red tailed hawks. (One of my favorite birds to watch.) Great weekend with my father, son, brother in-law and nephews.

My brother in-law got a doe and three hogs. (One which he sent home with me.)

Sounds like it was a good time. I'll bet the kids don't forget it soon.

And this is the right time of year for hogs, right?

I believe there is no season, meaning open season all year long on hogs.

Toothpick did you use an S!K to clean any game?

Also congrats on Tiny Toothpick's first hunt!

Yea hogs are a year round battle.

Yes I used my 3.5 and my ff hiking buddy to clean the hog my brother in-law gave me.

Thanks Riz. He's almost 3 so he probably won't remember. But it was a blast either way.

No, I wasn't worried about you being out of season, legally speaking. Didn't you say that some times of year they are really gamey, but that you might get a good hog if harvested at other times?

They don't sweat so summer time you typically don't want a hog in my experience. Now small pigs can be a little better about that. It has been a warm winter here, so well see.

I've also heard soaking the meat in buttermilk will help the taste.

I got to spend the better part of a week out with my dad, training dogs and doing some coon hunting, fighting the late-winter where-oh-where-is-spring blues :) Drove through Montana into North central Wyoming and stayed below Bighorn National Park where the Shoshone flows into the Bighorn River.

The 5.1 did not make it in time for the trip........

.....so these were my constant companions.

First time in a long while there wasn't an RMD on my hip. Nathan's field knife is a fine tool.

And Guy's GSO 3.5 that will never be sold. I love this knife.

Pictures from the park....

Devil's Bend area on the Bighorn River

A band of mountain sheep that wouldn't get out of the road. Cute little guys :)

I had to get one shot of the food :) Pork chops from a fair hog my girl raised with omelettes-turned-scrambled eggs in the skillet, ha! I'm not a very refined cook :D The 3.5 makes a pretty dandy little steak knife, though. All in all a good trip. Cheers

Thanks fellas. The West definitely has its siren's call. It's such a big country, I feel very fortunate to have seen a good bunch of it.
