What type of knives do you carry in your truck/car. I use to keep one of my swamprats in there and for a time one of my Busses, that is until my truck was stolen (luckily none of my high end knives were in there at the time :)) Now I am keeping a Cold Steel GI Tanto that I modified to better fit some wilderness chores. At $15 I wont get too upset if it is lost or stolen.

good looking mods...

is that beadblast or some kind of paint?

also, is that cloth grip tape under the wrap? if so, that's the same thing i do, very good way to keep the cord from shifting too much...

Thanks siguy. The finish is some kind of spraycan outdoor furniture epoxy coating I pickup at Lowes....I was going for tan. I cut off the top guard with a hacksaw and then used a dremmel with a sanding drum to smooth it out. I also shaved a bit off of the bottom guard and rounded out the choil a bit. The original wrap was tight, but it seemed to me that it would unwind with hard use (as what happened to noss). Underneath was a piece of rubber foam which I put back in once I coated the blade, the foam helps to keep the paracord from sliding. Then I just tied some paracord around the handle in overhand knots to finish it off.

I realize its slightly off topic, but are there any legal repercussions of carrying a large knife in a car? I was thinking about hiding either a Livesay Woo necker or a RC-4 in my car but I dont know if there'd be any penalties if I got pulled over. Would it need to be in a bag to make it seem like its part of a BoB or can I keep it within easy reach?

I carry all my gear in a Pelican 1430 toploader case. I ussually carry a KABAR TDI or my SOG Seal tech Bowie in the truck.

I keep a Ontario Rat 5 in a BoB in the trunk.

I think it depends on your state laws. Talking to the cops I know, they said to keep it in a bag out of arms reach. Like the trunk. Transporting any size fixed blade in CT is not illegal, but if you keep it under the seat or in a console within arms reach it can be considered concealed.

I am sure there are some regulations, I would have to check my city codes. I do however keep it in my old NBC bag in the back where it is out of reach.

The newer GI Tantos have plastic handles, don't they?
Plastic handles are an option now, but I think they are still available with paracord wrapped handles.

i don't drive a truck :o but in my car kit i have a SAK hiker and a spyderco bill moran knife... i think i might add my blacjack grunt in the mix too..:)

That is what my understanding was about here in IL as well. However when you are driving into Chicago the laws get a little stricter, one can get a ticket for talking on a cell phone while driving, so police might have trouble with a 6" blade.

starting tuesday.. no more driving and talking in CA. too..:)

You can talk and drive but it has to be hands free, I just can't get use to a blue tooth. It doesn't feel like a phone call without the phone to my ear.

Here is what I use to carry in my truck.

Been that way over here for awhile. They just need a law restricting women from doing their freakin makeup and nails in the car now.

I hate dodging those idiots as they drift in every lane.

Sorry, rant off:o

As far as the original question, I have a Kabar and an Estwing hatchet in a secured container which also holds a BOB in the back. Closer at hand I have an RC4, LM and a Benchmade Pinnacle.

spyderco rescue, SAK soldier, some stainless steel mora (for the sheeple ;)) RAT 7 D2 and an Ontario SP8 machete as well as an axe. I usually have my benchmade Vex in my pocket as well :)

Cold Steel SRK ,Gerber folding saw, and Gerber suspension. All these are in my trunk right now with my go bag. also I keep a surplus wool army blanket in there. Gene

I have a good hatchet (I know, not a knife, but an edged tool) in each of our vehicles and I have my daypack everywhere I go, which has a SAK Farmer in it at all times.
