Truck Knives, What do you carry?

i don't have a car, i ride a bicycle or carpool...
but if i ever get a car i intend to keep a basic kit with maybe a fiskars hatchet, machete, fire, change of clothes, food, water, etc in it, so that i can be ready. for when i'm biking, i keep a very small version of that in my shoulder bag or backpack.

andrew, what's that large grey patch in the middle of the bark river blade?

Buck 119 and no-name hatchet. Now that I think about it, I will stick a bow saw in there as well and a pair of leather work gloves.

MY car has a kit with all the normal car things, jumpers, crowbar (lol yeah thats normal) first aidkit, scraper, extra oils&fluids and lights. A Ka-Bar 8" tanto and a Vic OH fireman. gloves and everything else. Some water and blanket is a good idea. Also a large Fiskars axe and flashlights.

As far as things getting stolen from the vehicles...just drive a crappier car :) I have a 1991 Ranger that hasn't been touched in years. Inside it I usually have my Frost survival knife, a couple of random pocket knives, some form of SAK, and one of my new Moras. In the bed/toolbox I have my two Tramontina machetes, a few hatchets, various potentially painful garden tools, and my tackle box with fillet knives.

I always keep a kabar knife and a fiskers camp axe in my car bag. I also have a change of clothes matches, rope, jacket and a few other items as well.

Always a Victorinox Multi Tool (covers most things)plus what's in my pockets or pack that day,1-5 knives.Very often I keep a Fiskars Mini Hatchet in the car for hiking, picnics etc.

I carry a Frosts Mora TriFlex Craftsman, a cheap slip joint Trapper, a folding saw and a Kershaw hatchet. I need to add an Ontario TAK1 D2 to that line-up to cover pretty much all the bases.....

Stay sharp,

Like dougo, I drive a Ranger (96) so it's not really a crackhead magnet. Good mileage and cheap parts too! I just picked up this 5 1/2" Frost bowie on ebay specifically as a beater meant mainly for the truck (and because I haven't tried Micarta handles). I don't expect much from it but I'm always open to being pleasantly surprised. Either way, no big loss if it goes missing on a jobsite or overnight (40 bucks IIRC). That's my main requirement for anything that lives in the truck.

I keep a RAT-7 in the vehicle, with a Victorinox Spirit and an Opinel saw in the toolbox. Also a spare folder in the glove compartment in case I forget my EDC.

I really had to think about this as I have one of those aluminum tool boxes on the back of my truck with a ton of gear in it!

In my "war purse" as I like to call it, there is a Scrapyard Guard that goes in my pocket when I'm on the jobsite. In my tool bag there is a mora just like the famous INFI Mora from the other thread. There is also a box cutter in there. Also there is a 3/4 size Agdor Bruks axe.

I think that's all the cutting tools I have in there. But the full list of truck gear would be pretty long! Everything from a blue tarp for lying on while I work underneath the thing in a puddle, or for stretching over the bed for sleeping or covering a load, to a full tool kit, to a folding-stocked M14 with an Eotech on it. Prepared? Absolutely! Psychological issues? Evidently!

Lucky I drive a 1986 F150 that is all beat up from sliding it down trees and crashing it back in the bush...nobody is going to guess that there is gear in the truck worth 2 or 3 times what the truck itself is!

Mora Triflex 780, machete in the bed, a multi-tool and a Coughlan's commando cable saw. The cable saw is something that has saved my butt several times. It'll cut radiator hoses, soft metal, as well as wood and plastic. It is cheap and takes up very little space.

I keep my 5" CRKT Ultima in the glove compartment of my car and my USAF issued Ontario under the seat.

kershaw outcast rides in the back with his friends.
