TV series REALLY worth owning on DVD.

I would like to have ER, St. Elsewhere, MacGuyver, and PBS' Dr. Who and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on DVD. Not necessarily because of their replayability, but because I haven't seen all of the episodes, despite enjoying each series.

I think HHGTTG was much the best in its original form as a radio play. You can buy the complete set on tape or CD - play it in the car!

For the telly, hmm,

Red Dwarf, definitely
Sharpe
Ab Fab, maybe
What the Romans [etc] did for us - Adam Hart-Davis is a scream!

Far Scape was good to as was the Highlander series. I know the 2nd and
3rd films were not chock full of continuity but its Sci fi what do you expect?
The TV series was still good, especially the European versions. ;)

There is no such thing as Highlander 2 or 3 or 4 or whatever. There can only be one!

There were an awful lot of ones! And the European versions were a little
more risque' so to speak.

And the Millenium were the demons were sitting around the diner was pretty
good. They shouldn't have canceled that show.

Millenium was a superb show. The episode where Frank Black's cop friend (Bill Smitrovich?) dies in the house just freaked me out. Until now i still have that image of the dude standing at the top of the stairs.

Another episode that has freaked me out is in X-Files where there was this in-bred family. The mother was living under the floorboards or something like that. It was just freaky and scary.

Buffy (Got em all already! I LURVE S. M. Gellar!)
24
Family Guy
Father Ted (Dunno if youve had this over in the states, 3 priests living on Craggy Island of the coast of Ireland. Very Funny! Typical quote from the really dim Father Dougal "Blimey! Kurt Cobain blew his head off with a shotgun. How'd he manage to survive that?" Father Ted replies "well, he didnt, he's dead!" Father Dougal "Oh right!"
Magnum PI
Phoenix Nights (Another one you wont know about a working mens club in Bolton, Lancashire)

Id love the Simpsons on DVD, too.

I'd like to know what everyone thinks are their top 5 or so choices of TV series that they REALLY think are worth owing on DVD. Here would be some of my choices: (I don't actually own all of these). NOTE: Your favorite series may not be the ones that you'd like to own on DVD, I am basing this mostly on shows on replayability rather than entertainment, if that makes sense.
1) Kung Fu
2) MASH
3) Star Trek: Next generation
4) Miami Vice (don't laugh)
5) Munsters
6) The Simpsons.

The only tv show I need on DVD is Green Acres
I have the complete monty python dvds and a couple of seasons of Kids in the hall. But If I was marooned on a deserted island with electricity and my portable dvd player, Green Acres is all the television I need, Well maybe Victory at sea also!

X-files! So very disappointed by the last season and a half, though. And the ending.

Monty Python for sure, South Park, Friends, and probably a couple others that I can't think of at the moment.

Not quite sure what to think of Buffy, though. I mean, it's Sarah Michelle Gellar, but it seemed pretty bad after watching consecutive seasons of X-files on DVD. And anyone notice, there are recurring people in Buffy, Friends, and the X-files? The guy in Boiler Room, for example (I think, forgot his name).

The Missus used to watch Millennium with me 'till she saw that episode, it freaked her out as well. One of the best :) . I liked that one about the marketing cult with the industrial size microwave .
You're right about Farscape, it was a real shame that they stopped it.

That's weird. The industrial microwave episode is also one of the few episodes that i remember from Millenium.

I would almost bet that one of the writers from the X-Files was a raised a
fundamentalist. Some episodes were right on the edge enough to make them
interesting. The one that stands out is when Sculley found the crashed
Alien Ship in Africa....... that was disturbing to say the least.

And hogan's Hereos was farce that was very funny, I liked it and if it can
be found I may buy it. But as Sgt. Schulz said "I know nothing, nothing"

:D

It was based on those Aum cultists in Japan, the ones that carried out the subway attack. Apparently one or two folk who pissed them off were disposed of in this fashion.

I own all available Southpark DVDs. My wife has several seasons of I love Lucy. I don't watch much television. Many of the programs you all have listed I've not even heard of let alone watched. It's the History Channel, Football or Movies.

I don't know about any of you lot but I always favoured the stand alone episodes of the X-Files over the alien cover-up/conspiracy thread that ran through the whole series.
BTW fixer27, do you mean the one where the show ends with the shot pulling out to reveal the craft embedded in the rocks on the shore? Cool.

Yes, that is the one. the kept on finding parts of the thing each with some
writing on it until Sculley finds the whole enchilada. That one and the one
were the "conspiracy" people thought that they were boarding the ship with
the Hybrid woman only the aliens had something very different in mind......

So far, cmd, you and I are the only fans of Babylon 5 in this thread.

Looks like we are not totally alone on this one anymore. Great quotes you had there, too.

I really can't say which were my favorite characters. The whole "arch of the story, written entirely in advance" concept was an awesome thing to see succeed.

my favs.

millennium, x-files, smallville, and one of the best shows ever LOST

i loved the season two finale of millennium with the marburg virus bleed outs. surprising they could allow that on t.v.
