On the whole maple syrup thing: If I could make my own, I would. Since I can't, I spend the extra bucks to get "real" maple syrup. I have to, because all the other crap in the store has high fructose corn syrup......which aint maple.

I've never actually had good maple syrup......its always been the fake stuff. Tried some wally world brand once and thought it was OK. Maybe I need to find some good stuff.

Amanda and I tapped trees for the first time this season. We ended up with over 2.5 gallons of Maple syrup. I am not sure how we are going to consume it all but I have excepted that challenge!

Morning all. Slow Saturday at work. Browsing knives....lots of good looking tools out there :D

Fished for a couple hours yesterday morning. Ended up breaking a guide off of my new rod when I was putting it back into the box of my pickup. :grumpy: First time I've ever spent more than $30 on a rod and I break it right away. I couldn't find anyone local that can replace a guide, so I searched around and found a guy in the town I haul mail to, that can fix it for me. :) He told me it would only be $7, which surprised me. I expected it to be closer to $20. I'm going to meet him somewhere next week and let him take it and fix it. I bet I'm a bit more careful from now on too.

There are so many that I want, but truly don't need. Then there's the whole money thing too. I really do see myself owning the new ZT 0450 pretty soon though. I really want to get the emlax PM2 as well. I also found someone doing stonewashed TI scales for the PM2's, so I really want a set of them. The list goes on. LOL

I need to get some fishing in. I love it, and used to go all the time. Not sure what changed, but I need to go again. Hell, my cabin's on the St. Francis river, known for walleye.

Get your butt out and do some fishing!! I used to fish a lot more in the summer, but the last 5 or 6 years I haven't fished much at all in the summer. This year I told myself I was going to start doing a lot more and decided to spend some money and get a really good rod and reel. I've been fishing more times in the last few weeks since the ice came off the lake than I have the last 3 years combined.

Walleye is my favorite fish to eat, but I really love just getting out and catching about anything. Lately I've been catching northern pike, but I'm about out of walleye that I have in my freezer from this winter, so I need to get out and catch some more to stock up. I could probably just keep some northerns, but they are kinda a pain to get all the bones out of and I'm not very good at it. I suppose if I start keeping a few, I'll get better though.

If either of you drink coffee, my parents love to put a little maple syrup in theirs. They wen't through a whole quart in somewhere around a month, and we only had pancakes one time during it.

Bring it in a couple weeks. That should get it consumed. I'll even make the pancakes....

Old timer's trick (here, anyway) is to just make the coffee with the sap (not the syrup). Gives the coffee a little sweetness. Usually reserved for the end of the sugaring season when you're sick of boiling the stuff down. Hmmm...might try that today....if my last bucket of sap hasn't started fermenting....

Hows your noggin feel after drinking them screwdrivers last night? I had a really long night of drinking them once, and haven't been able to do vodka since.
I never drink to get drunk. I just get a decent buzz going. I feel fine.

I bought my fishing license last year, and only went once. It'll cost $32 for my non resident Missouri fishing license, so I better use it, haha. Walleye is some good eating. Blue gill, crappie, bass, and walleye are my favs.

Vodka and orange juice is a hell of a good combination. Feeling no pain right now. Feels great after a long week at work.
Last night for me was some Jim Bean Devil's Cut.

I'd been wanting to try one of those folding stoves I'd seen at the local sporting goods store. Unfortunately they were out. So I ordered one on-line.

Caught a pic seconds before the fuel tab ran out.
The cup of tea turned out well, but I wish I'd been paying a bit more attention and gotten the Esbit. The paint is already cracking on this one. Oh well. It wasn't much.

Inspired me to build what will likely be the last fire of the season, unless we can get lucky and get a late cool front.
Seems to be I remembed a local(ish) Beckerhead was working on a collapsible stove that we haven't heard anything about lately.

Oh, hey Jerry... How you doing?

You should get some good syrup. It's absolutely AMAZING, and so different than the fake stuff.

You don't use a sock for your rod?

I've made the mistake recently of looking at Fiddleback Forge knives. OH SWEET JEEBUS. They are smexy!

We do that too. It makes some super yummy coffee!

You might be able to get a resident license since you own property here.

and if it has started fermenting, add some instant tea (tannic acid source) and wine yeast to help it along -- maple wine!
