Normally I let new users off the hook and chock it up to inexperience but I'm getting kinda tired of the attitude that seems to be infiltrating the forums with new users and this last experience is the straw that broke the camel's back. See sale ad.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1372353-Spyderco-PM2-black-satin-s30v

After the ad was up for more than an hour or so Paul registered an account with BF and posted "I'll take it" in the ad. After doing so he sends a boat load of questions, which I answered and politely let him know that next time he should ask questions before claiming an item. I took additional pictures and sent back a long winded email back with the pictures explaining more about the knife I had for sale and about how to spot a fake PM2. He had a hiccup in his email program and my email went to his spam folder, apparently at the same time he got my first email again in his inbox and threw a hissy fit when he thought I didn't answer his questions.

Before shipping the knife I gave it another good look over as I always do before shipping knives to make sure I hadn't missed anything, at that time I was able to shave hair off of my arm. Yesterday he received the package and immediately tells me I sent a dull knife that he can't even cut paper with, he said "You sold me a tool that doesn't do what its designed to do". When I explained that I could shave with it before shipping he changed his story to say the edge is rolled and the blade has chips in it. He went on to say that he would describe the knife as being in "excellent condition" as I did in my ad and that the screws have tool marks in them. In the extra pictures I send there were pictures of the hardware, typical rough PM2 hardware, Spyderco leaves marks in their screws from the factory.

It was in the second email that Paul tells me "This is your chance to make it right by adjusting the price". Now his intentions are abundantly clear.

Seller beware.

HalJordon is definitely one of the good guys on this forum. I've purchased from him in the past and he provided perfect descriptions, great overall communication, and fast shipping.

That being said, I'm sorry this has happened to you, bro. I hope everything works out.

The edge on your Para 2 looks absolutely perfect Hal, and I'm sure the knife in your pics is the one you sent this weasel.
When brand new members question why people won't sell to them.......here is the answer. This dip stick knew exactly what he was doing from the get go.
Sickening. Hope this works out in your favor.

"You sold me a tool that doesn't do what its designed to do"

LMAO!!! That has got to be one of the silliest things I've read in a very long time.

Now, palonej, I gotta say based on the pictures in the sales thread, you cannot see the edge, it's in the shadow part of the picture and it's really hard to see if the edge is perfect or otherwise. You just cannot see it, at least I can't, there is no light showing the edges condition. In any case, pics of the edge not only the primary grind are always a good thing. Especially when dealing with folks that "too new to gauge" personality, attitude, reaction, expectation, etc. Bottom line, it was a knife that was previously owned, sold used (clearly implied by stating the condition as anything other than new), and the price reflects that (IMO). I'd hate to see this turn into an extortion thing or a case of newbie buyers remorse.
It's not a good thing to call people names, given the fact that you assume to know what his intentions were out of the gate, with 2 posts to his name.

I appreciate the support, I've never had a problem until recently with new members. I told him that I won't be adjusting the price and I have added him to my ignore. It could very well be buyers remorse but in any case I accurately described the knife and feel like I went above and beyond facilitating this guy. Also, I agree the edge is tough to see in the pictures. I used a filter on my phone which shows the edge pretty well. I don't mind selling to new members and I don't mind answering as many questions as a potential could have and I'm happy to take more pictures if we discuss it prior to agreeing to buy something.

Thank you sir, and right back at ya.

Sorry for jumping the gun Rev! I'm looking at the first pic in sales thread. I expand it, on my phone, and see NO chipping or rolling. After teading yhow the buyer describes the edge, that damage would be easily noticeable.
Hope it works out Hal!!

These threads are popping up far to often these days and it sure is a shame. Sorry to see this happen to you Hal. I hope it all works out for the best. I have not put one person on my ignore list up until the last few months. Now it has quite the roster.

Exactly, except for MTurbo, no one was on my ignore list until a few months ago.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll put him on ignore simply for saying he'll take it conditionally. Far too man good people, not just members here but potential members, to put up with folks that have no common sense.

Does he know about this thread?

So what will you do now? This guy paid with gift right? Otherwise I am sure he would be opening a case.

^ Whew! And to think, all this time I thought I was on your list... ;)

Seriously Hal- I appreciate the heads up regarding this person, & his BS attempt (after the sale), to adjust an already great price.

Most unfortunate. Similar occurrences do seem to be on the rise these days. In order to combat them, I have recently chosen to restrict my sales to paying members in good standing. It is far from a perfect solution given that even some paying members can go sideways. It also prevents sales to nonpaying folks who are new, but who are otherwise awesome to do business with. I do hope that in the end, it weeds out some of the riff raff, though there is no way to know for sure. One thing that I am sure about is that the group of eligible buyers is significantly smaller. Still, I feel that if we don't do something to dissuade the knuckle heads from coming around, then they are just going to stay and continue to rock the boat.

Hahaha, I don't remember a run in with you. If we had a problem like I said, I usually let stuff go. This was just so blatantly rediculous that I couldn't.

Yes. I requested payment net to me, he chose the friends option. I may or may not send him a link to the thread. I'm not planning on doing anything. As far as I'm concerned the deal is complete. If he had a legit problem I'd be more than happy to take care of him but asking for a price adjustment makes me think he isn't on the up and up and his story keeps changing. I just want others to be aware of this tom foolery.

I don't mind dealing with new members who read and understand the rules they are agreeing to by using the exchange. It's also a good idea for them to get a acquainted with best common practices of the site before jumping in feet first. I'll definetly be rethinking my conditions of purchase moving forward though. It's just getting to be a pain.

I sent him a link to the thread. We will see if he has a good explanation for his actions.

Also, here are the extra pictures I sent showing him the spot where the clip was moved and showing him a few ways to tell its an authentic PM2, lanyard tube, liners with tool marks, jimping and satin hardware with tool marks. I was attempting to educate him for the future.

I always insert in the ad that I reserve the right as to whom I sell to. If I get an "I'll take it," followed by too many back and forths, then I will politely call off the deal. Their behavior screams "avoid me."

That's probably where I'll head with my conditions.
I've got 90+ positive feedback and way more positive transactions and I haven't felt the need until now to add conditions to my sale ads. I guess it's time .
