Um, Snark?

I finally finished building my workbench. I take my Craftsman 2x42 out of the box and get it set up. It broke the first time I turned it on. The spring inside the upper wheel broke and it wont hold the belt tight without it. I'm going to exchange it Saturday. Sure hope I have better luck with the next one.

Ouch.....

So, about the rabbits.... You're sitting there with a bow...... I know a guy that might have some good recipes.

Well, they are (surprisingly) a protected species in some parts of our state - the part that I live in, anyway. New England cottontail, believe it or don't.

Rabbit is good meat. People raise them for food.

Yeah - Dresnor and Copperhead88 (Jeremy and Amanda) raise them in Maine and the NE 'Heads are lucky enough to sample at the Gatherings. Rabbit chili (last fall, IIRC) was the bomb.

I didn't have great luck with mine, either....though it's good (enough) now. Mine came with the housing bent so that the top wheel and the bottom wheel weren't parallel in plane - tracked properly, but the belt hung off the top wheel to the left, and the bottom wheel to the right. They exchanged it, tho.
Good luck, Maus....and gratz on the bench. I have a nice work bench myself.....I think....if I could find it underneath all the crap where I think I left it....

About my luck as well. Hope ya get up and running soon!

Rabbits...
Around here them and squirrels carry a parasite called wolf something. Not good to eat until after the first frost. I think the legal season starts in January.
Also, I've heard you should bury chicken wire about 12" to keep them from burrowing under your fencing. I have a friend who raises meat rabbits kinda under the table. I did a job last year for a farmer. I wired up his walk in cooler for his chicken meat. He told us that he used to raise rabbits but the USDA or some govt entity instituted a new law or rule for rabbit meat. Basically every rabbit had to have some sort of test that ended up costing more than the rabbits. Essentially, in his words, the small guys were pushed out by this leaving only large companies able to afford to raise and sell rabbits. Hell, it's a $5000 fine to ride down the road with a live untagged pig. The whole live stock and farming system has gone to hell in favor of corporate farming .

Don't get me started on GMOs and the farmers being sued for illegally growing crops "owned" by corporations because a bird decided to eat in one field and shit in another....

Hey Psyop.....

Glad you are doing ok..... E

Thanks Boss

Snark was pretty dead but it appears to have been revived with a new sense of humor.....must be the heat.

Pssstt, Bladeetay......you want rabbits? Some clean, unmarked NH rabbits, hmmm? I know a guy......

Seriously, they're to the point that if I was a shade more athletic and possibly 2 decades younger I could catch them in my hands. Went out to shoot my bow this evening, there was one sitting a foot in front of the target, and another one snuggle up against my 20 yd. shooting platform. That one took off when I got within about 6 ft. him - the other one was coming toward me while I was shooting, and as I skirted around it to go pull arrows, I was even closer.....before it took off.

Then, this happened:

Gonna bandage it and go sleep it off.

bunnies! hey, you have a garden, you can "pest them"...

and ow, that had to stick, which bow?

keep it clean!

Yeah, it stung a little.....my watchband protected me a little; you can see where it skipped over the band on it's way towards my thumb. The bow is my "new" Mission Riot - my 20 year old Hoyt that was re-strung like, 10 years ago (or more, IDK) is still fine, I think....the case it's in hasn't exploded....
I did see the string fraying just the tiniest bit around the peep, and the shop guys were already warning me that with the amount I'd been shooting and the condition of it, I should at least get the string done before hunting season. Well, it's gettin' done now.A new kevlar string and cable set are coming. I'll see where my head's at when the whole thing is back together.....gonna be hard not to flinch the first dozen or so shots.

Thanks Boss

As for squirrels i was always told fleas and ticks were the only reason to wait until it gets colder... But i have eaten them in the summer without issue.

Now I have heard that before about rabbit meat not being good to eat before a frost. Or only eat during months with an "R".... Its myth, mostly, as far as my research can tell. Especially in the south where it never gets REAL cold. Tularemia is real but handling properly prevents its exposure. As far as the rabbit meat goes if you wear gloves when cleaning it and cook it properly you will be fine eating it any time of year. Im still alive anyways....

If im completely wrong PLEASE send me a link thats credited as id love to know the truth on it. I was told the same as what you are stating... But i have also been told ants dont sting, they only bite, Bats are completely blind, dogs are color blind, ostriches stick their heads in the sand, and toads give you warts.... So you know.... I take this stuff with less than a grain of salt :D

My first one was crap. Had to take it in and replace it. 2nd one wasnt perfect but better than the first and i still have it. Still works fine.

Heck yea!! I have ate rabbit a few times... Squirrel too. I like em.
About to watch the final episode! Fun series.

You should also check out Stranger Things. Brilliant.

Good final episode. But makes me want to know what happens next... though i read it hasnt officially been picked up for a 3rd season yet so that will suck if not...

Stranger things looks interesting but i dont have netflix these days unfortunately. :(

would the barrel allow you to change out cylinders? if so id go that route and get 1 of each. otherwise id probably go with 45-70 just for the variety of loads

The BFRs aren't offered as convertible models but I'm sure someone like Bowen or the like could fit an extra cylinder.

Based on what I've read on .454 vs .45-70, .45-70 would give me .454 performance with less chamber pressure and less recoil. But the .454 can shoot .45 colt for less recoil and such and is a normal sized gun so I could pack it around in a holster but while the .454 is a beautiful revolver the .45-70 has that long cylinder which is just awesome. I think I need at least one of each and a nice pair of Ruger .45 convertibles.

Slow day at work, supervisor ended up taking a couple of the warehouse guys across the street to Georgetown Brewing for an extended break, got to taste a few brews and ended up getting a growler, good times.
