I hear tell of folsk fighting with Barlow knives back in the day, the technique was to try to slap the other guy's spine and close the blade on him.

LOL......Earl was definitely a bad boy!
LOL!LOL......
That reminded me of this.....Speaking of bad boys....Goodbye Earl.....
The cops came by to bring Earl in
They searched the house high and low
Then they tipped their hats
and said "Thank You, ladies, if you hear from him let us know"
Well, the weeks went by and spring turned to summer
And summer faded into fall
And it turns out he was a missing person
who nobody missed at all
Haha -Today if someone asks you to stop doing the zouave, don't think he is flattering you !
Nice to see that one again VinceView attachment 1831680

To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what a hipster is. Maybe we don’t have them around here.
Yeah, I bought one in the early 1980's. Think I gave it away.Unless one' name is Rambo, pulling this knife out of a sheath would likely be considered quite ungentlemanly
And to think that the Buckmaster 184 was actually designed for military use

But, big and over the top hollow handled survival knives were a thing for a short stint. Now it's mostly just a piece of American history
Tradition evolves.
The Rambo movies had more to do with these types of knives than anything else.
I never got one back then, my only recently picking up the mint shape specimen I shared in the photo above. It's just a collectable to me, but, by gosh, they sure command a pretty penny in such conditionYeah, I bought one in the early 1980's. Think I gave it away.
