United States Postal Service !!!!

I must be the exception to there wonderful service I keep hearing about. I ship all over the world for a living for over 20 years when United Parcel went on strike we had to ship with the post office it was a nightmare . As far as using a different carrier at least UPS honors there claims besides that Fed Ex and UPS are moving there packages for them now so I say cut out the middle man.

Wait a sec...you ship all over the world for a living for over 20 years?
Is your company a competitor of USPS?
Maybe your delivery person is trolling you.
That's actually a pretty good joke.

USPS Has had my package in the same state of origin for 7 days now.
Thought I would beat the July 4th. holiday.
Yeah right.
Cheers

This business of FedEx moving USPS packages came about because they already had an air fleet and USPS didn't need to create one when FedEx could use their excess capacity to move the mail.

In return, FedEx (which gets paid to haul that mail) gets to place their pickup boxes by post offices. We and they will continue to cooperate wherever we can. It's good business and it's good for our customers.

Of course when UPS goes on strike, post offices can't take up the huge extra burden. Where do you think we got the personnel, vehicles, and sorting facilities for that? By paying overtime and overloading our regular operations.

i think it all has to do with who works at your local post office. luckily i went to school with everybody that works at the post office here in town except for the postmaster and 1 carrier so i get good service with no worries. usps is my first choice of delivery service.

i tell people to use usps over ups and to never use fed ex who hires idiots to work for them. i have had good luck with usps and ups but not fed ex. fed ex has left packages at the house that were not mine that i had to deliver for them. i had packages for me left at the empty house next door that has a for sale sign out front, unmowed grass and no signs of anyone living there. luckily none of the neighborhook punks took the package which had medical supplies in it.

I've sent out and received about 2,000 packages using USPS throughout my lifetime and have never had one lost either way.

Then you are lucky. Update tracked this again yesterday after we got our mail here showed delivered but guess what not here ! Just for kicks walked over to the place my last package was delivered to and yep there it was receptionist said was just getting ready to call you honey . So the next package I have shipped to me I will use there address and maybe they will deliver it here but I doubt it. And yes the receptionist is HOT so if anyone would like to send me a small gift I sure would appreciate it. ;) Now that I think about it shes probably why my stuff keeps getting delivered there mailmans trying to move in on my action !

Sure thing one of you fine gentleman ship me something I'm sure it will end up there anything for the team. Like I won't find a excuse to make my way back over there anyway might even ship myself something!

Last two packages with tracking info sent to me were late, and the tracking info has ridiculous gaps in the timeline. My last package left Baton Rouge, LA and without any further information, went straight to "delivered" here in rural Oregon a full day behind the "Expected delivery by" date.

I am waiting on a package scheduled for today that has been within 100 miles of me for the last 36 hours. Mail carrier has come and gone.

The last untracked priority box coming my way was prompt, but the lady delivering it didn't even come to my door. Instead, she took the time to fill out the "sorry we missed you" card and placed that into my mailbox 200 feet from my front door. Didn't even leave the seat. When I went to retrieve the small box from the post office, it took them 20 minutes of searching only to realize that it was sitting on the counter 4 feet from where I was standing.

This happened to me several times with a certain substitute (The PO is now a 23 mile trip away.). I mentioned it to my regular guy, the management checked and found a pattern, and the substitute was sacked.

Worst USPS Office in existence:

967 Brady Ave NW
Atlanta

Went to pick up our mail this morning at the Brady P.O. Got there just before 11:00 AM, they are supposed open at 9.
It was raining, and as is getting to be more and more the norm, the door was locked and no one answered it after banging on it for a few minutes. Had to walk around to the back and find someone to unlock the door.
We didn't have much mail today, but that was explained later when our neighbor showed up with about half our mail that they mis-delivered to him. Again. They screw his mail up so bad I'm afraid he is going to do something rash one day.

Complaints have meant nothing. The Postmaster General refers us to some local advocate, who in turn connects us to the manager of the facility, who says he will call us back and then never does. If you call the facility and ask to speak to this manager, he is either not there or they have never heard of him before.

We are afraid to complain too much, we can't get mail on time as it is. If we make too big of a deal I'm afraid we will start missing some mail all together, especially when our customer's payments come in around the 10th of the month. Maybe the Fire Marshall would be interested to know about the locked doors when the building is occupied? Just thought of that, maybe I will call them Friday.

On average I send/receive 19 packages per week. I've (knock on wood) never had a problem with USPS.
When it comes to ending the US Post Office, be careful what you wish for.
Your Mileage May Vary.

Today I found an article about the U.S. Postal Service logging all mail for law enforcement.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/04/us/monitoring-of-snail-mail.html?_r=2&

From the article

But, he[James J. Wedick, a former F.B.I. agent] said:“It can be easily abused because it’s so easy to use and you don’t have to go through a judge to get the information. You just fill out a form.”

For mail cover requests, law enforcement agencies submit a letter to the Postal Service, which can grant or deny a request without judicial review. Law enforcement officials say the Postal Service rarely denies a request

Well that's just comforting. I know I spoke highly of the USPS earlier in the thread but this kinda shakes my confidence of them.

One thing I don't get is insurance. For insurance companies, it makes sense to insure something such as car accidents- when it's your own/no one's fault. However, why do I have to pay insurance in case the post office screws up? That's like saying if I have someone make me a custom knife, if I don't give him insurance money and he screws up on the knife, I'm out of luck. It's the post office's fault, and IMO, they have to make it right. They're responsible for my package, and I shouldn't pay insurance to cover their butts if they screw up.

I have a new hawk coming next week and of course he's shipping it in the mail we shall see what adventures it has on the way. Will it be the sixth in 6 months I hope not getting old.

In the last 90 days Ive sent about 325 shipments thru usps. The only ones that did not show according the the buyers were International orders, 1 in Canada, Russia and Uzbekistan. Im happy with the Service for the most part. I do agree with Minibears Insurance comment though, that is some BS.

Last year I did have a close call though. Sent a knife to NY, instead it went to Hawaii, then to FL before making it back home to NY. Nice little vacation for under $10 I must say.
