Unreal 110 prices on eBay!!!

And what about the 560 selling for over $70???!!! Good grief, they were selling for $25 all day long just over a year ago. I don't get it but I wish I had a bunch of them!

I sure wish I knew about it at the time. I would have bought a million. But I'm not too unhappy about it, because I am still glad I bought the ones I have, at whatever price.

I'm trying hard not to look at ebay any more. I have benn having good luck hunting in places around small towns.but Isure would like a 560(extra one) to send in for a bg-42 blade already have one with ast-34.......Bigfish

well did any note the 2 560's NIB that went for 130=$EACH!
i had a man cancel a sale because he seen that and i was giveing him 70 each for 2.!
yep the prices are strange ! yet i jest picked up a aburm etch gold 4 deer for only 70 including shiping... so some higher end are not pricey yet junk is expensive.. lets see i have 9 of the 2 dot i should do something with....

People charging/paying too much for 110s is not much different from anything else on eBay. It's a case of uneducated buyers (and sometimes sellers) paying too much for something, which happens in every category there. I know I've paid too much for Star Trek stuff in the past, but I learned my lesson (hopefully).

It is dismaying to know someone will pay too much for something that may disappoint them. On the other hand, if they have the money and they are happy with the item and satisfied the price they paid, then capitalism is functioning as it should.

I suppose there are people who think I paid too much for the two dot 112s I snagged recently (I think $18something and $21 something before shipping), but the important thing was that I was satisfied with the transaction, as was the seller.

As always ... caveat emptor! And if you don't know your way around a market, do some research and ask questions (like coming here! :D )

INFLATION: Too many dollars searching for too few goods.

PREDICTION: Prices for USA made Buck knives won't be falling anytime soon.

THAT'S my prognasication for the day... Buck knives are a good investment!!

I have kept records of most of the good 300's sold on Ebay since 1999, (it's not that hard there are 10 times more 110's and sheaths auctioned). Prices have risen 20% for non-MIB, no sheaths etc. and 40% for quality kives hard to find MIB or near MIB.
I attribute this to a large increase in the number of Ebayers, as I have heard several people here say they have recently started there and to a increase in the number of people collecting pocket knives. (Baby- boomer effect ?). Where you could watch the auction counter, on the ones I watch, hit 25 or 30 in total in the early 2000's they are now commonly going over 100 hits.
And no one yet has commented about using the dastardly (my opinion) sniping and sniper programs.

Like a old man in western Kansas told me 30 years ago, land is exactually worth what YOU are willing to pay for it.

In the end you have to decided to pay for the luxury of sitting in your own house in a soft chair trading knives. That in itself is worth something...

It is true that peolpe will pay high prices for something they want. I know I've have got the bidding fever now and then and bid an item up more that it should have been (my bad). I've been watching some of the sellers listing standard Buck 110 custom shop knives for $150.00 to $200.00. When anyone can go and order one directly from the shop for $75.00 less. Go figure...... It's fun watching and frustrating when you're hoping to get a good deal. Every now and then we get a good deal from ebay; they are just getting harder to find.

The ones from the Custom shoppe start at $65.00 for a pretty basic 110. Most of the ones I see listed have "upgrades" that put them in the $100+ range. I also notice that the Damascus is not an option again. They are probably out of stock again. This seems to be a popular option with those that are willing to pay for a custom knife.

People get in a hurry for what they want. Usually, if you find what you want on eBay, and are buying from a reputable seller, you will have your new knife within a week. Custom orders from Buck usually take longer.

OK...I am listening to a bunch of collectors complain about how the values of what they are collecting is going up...

I thought that was the whole point!!

I think it is very cool myself and I am not really a collector. Joe gets that title in our family. :)

I think there is a good chance that some folks live in very rural or isolated areas that may buy these things. There's no other way that's easy to get the knife you want. I know I've done it myself. No such model nearby, you can't find it anywhere else so what's an extra $10 to have the knife delivered to your door? You're right though. There are cheaper ways to buy a knife.

i only buy on ebay what i cant buy at buck...
and as they were another quality tool i used to earn a liveing with, like i use craftsman or snap-on, i did NOT collect them tell retired 2 years ago... tell then if i would not use it i did not buy it... damm good useing tool not a friggen toy or work of art...
however that has changed i now have grown to want the art in knives and there iare some art knives out there that are priced jest out of reach...

CJ- the reason the collectors buy the knives is the want to have what they missed, to compleat a set for show that i have it ... not so much that others dont have it but that they do...
to have the knives go up in value is a detertment to real collectors.... for many reasons....

my matra= pay only what you are willing to pay to have it so that even if price goes down you are still happy and want it...
any thing else is INVESTING ie: when or if any part of decideing to have it is for its resale montary value = it becomes a case of i can buy it will sell it for more later cause new real collectors wont have it and have a need for it =
i hope thoes money hungry bastXXXX cut them selves on the edge oh i mean the money/profit edge that is ....!!!!

I just bought an old BuckLite on eBay for almost $50.00, including shipping. WHY? Because it's one I didn't have and is very rare (a second generation bead-blasted 422 to join my first generation bead blasted one). Bottom line for me is, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet if you want to win the auction. Also, I have bought some old BuckLites on eBay and sent them in for blade upgrades. I've never done it with a 110, but that's simply because they are so much more common. And, they aren't really what I collect. If the Custom Shoppe started offering 112 blade upgrades in a premium steel, I'd love to send in some craptastic 422s I got on eBay in the hope that one day they could get better blades.

Here's hoping that some more of those eBay wins will get their day....

I was one of those uninformed with more money than brains, I was playing on the net and found you guys. I been with you loyaly for a week and gained a year of knowledge. I bought a 110 at Walmart and no more paying on eBay more that I would if I bought the same product new.
Thanks to everyone for the enlightenment!

Agreed. I am more than glad that I joined this forum. It has been nothing but informative and fun. While I have had a Buck everday since I was a teen (I'm pushing 50), I've learned more here in the past few weeks than anywhere else (including the web)...well, that is how I found this forum, so that's a contradiction. But I hope you know what I mean..."thank you".
Kind Regards,
Me.

"APPRECIATION" is always nice.... :-) Pun intended. I'm with you C.J. That IS a big part of the fun in collecting ... and I'm not complaining.

The value going up is cool from the standpoint that I like it when others appreciate what it is I'm collecting and are smart enough to apprecviate Buck knives. ;) It's bad from the perspective that I know have to pay more to further my collection. :(

I don't really care about the value of something going up because I don't normally plan on selling any of my knives. I collect things because I want them, not because I think other people want them.

I agree 100%! ;)

I also don't consider myself a collector, because the knives I have are what I think are attractive in a knife. I don't plan on owning one of every version of the 110, or one of every model Buck makes...I just buy the ones I like. :)

And if I can't find a Buck that I like, then I'll make one! :D

Unfortunately, I've decided to attempt just that...one of each generation of the basic 110, and then customs that I like and intend to use. :D For me, that's a trade-off that I'm willing to make. Once I get the 110's my "collecting" will be over. :D  :jerkit:
