Ups and Downs of PP Friends and Family

Everyone says it will be way too much work for the mods...I don't buy it. At first, maybe...but as the threads requesting f&f get reported and the users get disciplined it will surely taper off and we won't have this issue anymore :). I'd volunteer for a mod position if the exchange was my only power in a heartbeat, I'm so tired of seeing this BS.

It's not our job to enforce the policies of companies outside of Bladeforums. The TOS of PP was signed by everyone that uses it, if they take the risk of FF then they understand the person they sent funds to was a "friend" and that friend has no obligation to return product for that "gift".
Of course, it's frowned on to use F&F but I think everyone will notice that the mods are less likely to step in when these gift exchanges don't go the direction some people think they should.

This next comment isn't necessarily directed at anyone in particular.

Paypal friends and family= "GIFT"

What part of that doesn't make sense?

I understand why folks want a rule or harder stance here on those that ask for F&F, yet I personally don't think it needs to change for a couple reasons.

First, and to expand a little on bhydes point, adding a rule like this is essentially asking the mods to police the Exchange and private transactions between adults. If this type of rule is necessary for you to conduct your business in a proper manner, then perhaps dealing online (and in potentially high dollar amounts) and with sharp things is not for you.

Second, I actually like it when a seller puts PayPal F&F or GIFT right there in their sales thread. I look at it as a big red flag to hit the back button and not pursue a transaction with that member. I'm sure most of the folks that do that are upstanding and I'd either get what I paid for or they would be open to other forms of payment but I have not yet found something that I wanted enough to even try and test those waters. No thank you.

I would rather avoid the F&F people because I am smarter than that than worry about making it a rule and enforced on people. It does as B benchwarmer380 points out also help highlight people who may be doing shady deals.

You're absolutely right about not being BF's responsibility to police another entity's TOS. I was ranting more because of a lost opportunity to purchase because of a f&f request.

You put it it better than I did. Thanks

I had a feeling I knew what you were talking about.. No big deal at all and wasn't really directing that at anyone in particular even though I quoted. It's an explanation of sorts to help people understand a little better.

Thanks for everyone keeping it civil!

Apologies if this is already covered, I did not read the whole thread.

So you use G&S, how many claims can you make before PP start
Rejecting them.
It’s not out of the realm of possibility that you get scammed 3-4 times a year depending on your trading activities
Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing

I haven't done much or any claims via PP but I believe they have some requirements to complete a claim so it would not be easy to use G&S to try and do a backwards scam.
