Ups and Downs of PP Friends and Family

It's not about "saving money" it's about dealing with people who are nothing more than thieves violating the terms of service they voluntarily agreed to abide by.

I can afford to buy just about anything I want to but I won't have my money knowingly and willfully stolen from me if I can help it. Has nothing whatsoever to do with what I can or can't afford, I can afford things because I don't send my money to thieves.

Not to speak for Chris, but i do believe he agrees with you and is just pointing out the inanity by coming from a different angle. He is saying that not only are they disobeying the ToS they agreed to, they are doing it for an incredibly petty amount of money.

GermanyChris GermanyChris please correct me if i am misinterpreting your words.

Fun fact I recently discovered: as a Vermont resident, I owe 8.5% of my PayPal-processed "income" in state taxes. So, it looks like my knife habit will be dialed back.

Is any of this offset by the amount you spent?

I don't know about you, but for me the taxes would be 0 or a write off against other income. I usually loose on sales. When I am lucky I break even. Very few go for a profit. PP is reporting your gross numbers.

That's what I meant

I suppose some may be "spooked" by it...but it is a definite turnoff to a lot of buyers. I generally won't even contact a seller with an offer if their ad includes that statement.
I hate to drag this topic up again because like you I usually just move on. Unfortunately the F&F requests have become rampant and if not curtailed could be the factor that brings down the exchange.
I had a 'coversation' last night in an effort to purchase a knife last night. After stating I'll take it. The buyer comes back to me asking for f&f because "it's the only protection I have as a seller." To me that is an implication that he doesn't trust me or his opportunity to cheat me. I withdrew and that ended it.
The opportunity to buy and sell and to support the BladeForums community is my reasoning to be a paid member. If on the other hand, I can no longer feel safe doing one and don't receive the support from the BF hierarchy for an obviously unethical activity where are my benefits.
Is anyone listening?

Everyone says it will be way too much work for the mods...I don't buy it. At first, maybe...but as the threads requesting f&f get reported and the users get disciplined it will surely taper off and we won't have this issue anymore :). I'd volunteer for a mod position if the exchange was my only power in a heartbeat, I'm so tired of seeing this BS.

Aren't all you guys the bestest of friends though? I've been misreading.

Regardless, I've sold FF solely because it was the only way I could get someone to do a transaction with me, either that or USPS MO.

I can't make this any clearer. If you use F&F you're stupid. If you demand it, you're a thief.

This^^ Try it - we might like it.

Naw I'm fine. USPS MO and PC been around a lot longer, and they're perfectly safe as well. Much safer actually :)

Well......my only and the only things between two people doing business is When they both do as they wish. And that my friend covers all the issues. Retoric and rear view mirror philos on what goes wrong.......Stay tuned for all here to yammer! LOL

Note that there was another scam recently where the sellers who used F&F actually got hurt worse than those that used G&S.

Someone bought a bunch of knives here using PayPal, then told his bank that his account had been hacked and the purchases weren't authorized. I'm not sure how it ultimately turned out, but it sounded like the sellers who used G&S were protected by PayPal under seller protection, while the sellers who used F&F weren't, and had the money taken out of their accounts.

This scam has already been mentioned more than once in this thread..

Except when you have agreed to PaypPal's TOS.

And another one jumps onto the ignore list...

They ALWAYS self-identify if you give em enough time.
