Urban Dead Revisited

Got in to Barbara General Hospital. (You were out front, Nasty. You're notice my corpse beside you when you log on.) Again, the random number generator was not kind. I whittled a high level survivor all the way down to 1 hp and AP'd out. I got back on a half hour later and found myself under attack by several survivors who'd stopped by; I landed a hit on my victim and found that he'd been healed back up to full. I'm now laying outside with a hole in my head.

No matter. It's a hospital and they won't barricade it over Very Strong. Tomorrow night it will probably be cracked again and if it's not, I'll crack it myself. These survivors really need to learn not to sleep in hospitals.

Yeah...I tried to help, but was locked out after beating down the cades. Just got Memories of life myself, so closed doors no longer mean safety from me. Gonna save up APs and try again tomorrow night myself.

I am *so* proud of myself!

Using my new Ankle Grab, I stood up for 1 AP...then using my new MoL opened a lightly barricaded building and killed a Level 1.

Then, to top that, I took my Level 2 Zombie Shamblin' Sam and in a live toe to toe fight, killed a Level 31 Military guy!

The first guys brain was sorta soft and mushy, but the second was like Prime Rib! Yum! Almost leveled again just on him alone...

OK I give... I've been traipsing across the map for days now in search of XP. The few buildings I can access don't seem to hold any goodies. My only real sucess came from punching a guy and then healing him with a first aid kit I found. I'm going to try and avoid zombiedom as long as possible, since I figure it's inevitable anyway. Meanwhile how is a low-level civilian with no tools or skills supposed to get anywhere in this game?

Raghorn, what class did you start as? Different classes have different methods for getting XP at low levels; at higher levels, they all start to look the same and getting XP is easy.

If in doubt, make a new character. Firemen are by far the easiest survivor class to start as -- just go outside and start swinging that axe. Get Free Running ASAP. It's handy everywhere and necessary in a lot of places. Don't spend the night outside. If you start in the wrong suburb you won't last the night, but there's not much that can be done about that. The Mall Tour '06 just ended and there are zombie hordes trashing some neighborhoods.

Peppardville is officially under attack. Zombies everywhere! I went to the Tynte Mall for ammo and found it overrun. I got away with a shotgun shell. If I survive the night, the levelling should be good...if I can find some ammo. I was going to head over to Ft. Creedy but I'm seeing a lot of people headed the other way and warning against it. And, like I said, I'm out of ammo.

SGR headed southwest. Baby zombies were nibbling on me too much. I don't mind if they eat me but they seem to quit when I'm down to 10 HP or so and I wind up taking a Headshot for it. I meandered back down into Lukinswood, kicked the door down to one of the churches (forgot which one), infected everyone inside, Rattled a bit of trash talking, and Groaned. I levelled in the process. Since I have all the zombie skills now except for Brain Rot, I'm going to be banking XP for the next time someone combat revives me. It's time that I got Bodybuilding and a flak jacket.

Lots of open doors in Lukinswood. Few survivors. I think this 'burb has pretty much had it. I'm going to continue south tomorrow night and if I don't bump into anything interesting I'll head to North Blythesville.

I'm a consumer. No skills, 6 XP. Coincidentally I was in Peppardville yesterday; the building I ended up in got crashed while I was offline. The other survivors managed to hold down the fort fairly well and I bailed with most of my HP when I came back.

We have three computers on one router here; It's hard to do extra characters because my boys want to play too, and the game server will limit our IP access if there are too many hits on their server.

Consumers are widely regarded as the most difficult class to start as, period. You may want to consider trying something else. Consumers have no good way of gaining XP early on. You'll have an edge over other characters at the beginning while looting malls but (barring the occasional zombie breakin) I haven't seen a mall barricaded below Extremely Heavy in a long time. You'll have no way in. And trust me...you don't want to spend the night in a mall, especially in the busier suburbs. I try to stay at least ten blocks away from them.

Fireman is a good starting class because you'll level quickly from the beginning. Scout isn't bad; Free Running will keep you alive, but gaining XP for the first level or two is a PITA. Soldiers and Cops start with firearms but you'll be anchored to a PD or (God forbid) an armory until you have Free Running and sleeping in resource buildings is a good way to get eaten; they're seldom barricaded heavily and there are always people inside, making them choice targets for zombies.

As for the IP limit, there are a few possible workarounds. Sometimes you can juggle it via proxy settings through your browser. Resetting your modem may do the job as well depending on your ISP.

I cheated and sent in $15 for unlimited server hits for my three main characters.

I paid $5 for my main character too, that's why I'm hesitant to leave it for another. I think that's the way to go, though. The first one may not be getting much XP but seems to be a lucky SOB so far. :D

One is dedicated living, one de(a)dicated Zombie, the third has fun no matter what happens.

Dave - Gower Auto Repair in Lukinswood (I closed the doors after entering) is offering this on the buffet (I ate until full and am taking a nap there): http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=469126

The survivors in the church were pretty angry. They rebarricaded and revived me. For reasons unknown they didn't dump my body.

I stood up today, burned AP by swinging an axe at them until the Infection killed me again, stood back up, killed the reviver and Infected the rest...again.

Bet ya they dump me next time. :D

Jeez, there's enough zombies in Barrville to choke a dead cat. What is the story on reviving?

Some (most) surburbs have at least one revive clinic. There may or may not be directions spraypainted nearby. It may or may not be marked. Places to check out are monuments, cemetaries, Necrotech buildings, and churches. If there's a light scattering of zombies in the 'burb and a whole bunch of them in an open area, chances are that it's an active revive clinic and they're waiting in line.

Going, "Mrh?" at survivors is considered by most to be a request for a revive.

In hot (and not-so-hot) areas, survivors occasionally revive random zombies for XP or just for the fun of it. This is known as "combat reviving" and is not only rude, but dangerous; some zombie players (like me) will simply start griefing the survivors until they die again. It happens, though. I get combat revived about twice a week on average.

While you're waiting in line, expect to be killed at least a few times before you get that revive. Unscrupulous players use revive points as XP farms and spend their time gunning down zombies waiting for revives. Sometimes you'll see zombies eating each other; not only does that get you further ahead in line, but you pick up some spare XP while you're waiting. If you're level 1, I'd recommend just starting a new character unless you're really attached to that one, as the hassle just isn't worth it.

If you're in or near Roftwood or Edgecombe, let me know where and when you'll be standing and I'll revive you.

And stay the heck out of Barrville and Ridleybank. These suburbs are completely under zombie control and have been for some time. Several hordes maintain active patrols here. It would probably be a good idea to stay clear of Peppardville, the Blythesvilles, and Lukinswood, among others.

I'm sorry I've missed this thread, I've been active in UD for about 3 months now. I have one human, Crunchy Bob, who is active in Rhodenbank as part of the main human group there, RCDC. He does alot of patrolling, trying to keep barricades low enough for non-freerunners, and responding to breakins. Another human, Gringo Pistolero, is more of a freeranger, currently in Pimbank IIRC (wherever Tynte Mall is). He's been fighting around the mall for a few weeks now.

Two main zombies, Headbowl and Bureaucrat. At times have wandered, sometimes in mall seiges, and now trying to carve out a zombie homeland in Rolt Heights (not too coincidentally, the home suburb of RCDC's enemy).

Thanks for the info, Dave. I haven't managed to get killed yet, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before I do. :)

Go ahead and get it over with...it only hurts the first time. ;)

to Wyke Hills because Heather just made a Zombie and that's where she popped up. Gotta love a girl who loves Zombies:D

If you share the ip address and work together (cooperatively or even within a certain distance) the game will impose a cheating tax on you...reduce your "luck" on the number generator.

You'll be able to tell...

Well, I keep getting better. Getting the whole thing started is the hardest part IMO. I just got free running with one of my characters, makes life so much easier. As a soldier, you need to stay around police stations all the time to get ammo, and police stations are always heavily barricaded.

Getting the zombie started isnt easy either, I need ankle grab and memories of life!

Keno :)
