USPS Lost my knife

Did you pay with paypal? If so, you can file a paypal claim and get your $$ back. If you paid more than $200 it has to be shipped with signature confirmation, and that one wasn't.

Yea i did. I'll look into that.

USPS sucks. I've had a recently purchased knife "out for delivery" in a neighboring city (different zip code) for 2 days when its supposed to be delivered to me. Trying to get a human to answer the phone is impossible. The city its out for delivery in has 12 post offices and the specific zip code has 3. I'm getting pissed. I feel your pain brother.

There is a possibility of the seller making a mistake with the zip? I have had this happen twice -- both times the seller munged up the zip. Fortunately, both made fine to me, guess USPS figured the error. Hope you get the knife!

I had that from amazon. Bought flectairn commo suite . It never arrived but no prob at all sentence another one use amazon anytime

Hopefully you used paypalgoods as well or this was not a buisness transaction and you will be out of luck on protection from paypal. Why buyers would ever use paypal gift and why sellers wouldn't fully insure I will never understand.

It's better than the current story in the news regarding USPS! I was watching the video of the USPS working in Birmingham who was throwing packages in a ravine! If any of you guys are out 'Bama way you might want to keep an eye on your tracking records!

I deal with this all the time. I am a city carrier. 9 times out of 10 we get the blame because of a late or missing package. When it arrives a week late the zip code is WAY off. Most carriers have a GPS phone device with them- when they scan a package it puts a GPS coordinate with it. If it is mis- delivered the USPS should be able to see where that package was scanned--in this case no where near your house.

IMO it is the duty of the seller to tape the crap out of those boxes. I've gotten knives in those small flat rate boxes with no extra tape before and it miraculously arrived without being busted open. How lazy and/or cheap do you have to be to not put less than 1 ft worth of packing tape to ensure the box is secure?

I would make a dispute with paypal instead of filing a claim with the post office. Send those pictures to paypal and the seller, and get your money back.

I love it! I worked with the first generation of those scanners, testing them and training users. If the government had left us alone, we would have developed even better systems over the years.

Never have worried about insuring before as a seller, but now seeing this it looks more worrysome.

How much does insurance cost for sending a ~$300 knife via priority mail?

Can't be more than a few bucks. It has been a while since I've sold a knife under $800 but I think the most I've ever insured was $1250 and it was an additional $12-13. To me.... having that peace of mind to know that if the package is lost/stolen I can get the full amount back... is well worth the extra $.

I use to ship knives without buying insurance and I would be worried and paranoid for the next few days after shipping it out. It wouldn't be until I see "delivered" on the tracking when I can breathe easy.

Update:
I checked the status of the claim I submitted and it says approved now. I'll see what happens.

Holy crap guys....

So today I was waiting for a package from USPS.... an emerson custom cqc7. Kept checking the tracking until just now when I saw it said, "DELIVERED". It required a signature and I didn't hear a door bell. Then I read it was signed by, "Xi Guan" which is far from being my name.

First thought was the mail person delivered it to the wrong house and the worse part was, it was signed for at 3:45pm (an hour ago). So I bolt out to my mailbox and luckily it was sitting in there. I think the substitute mail guy was too lazy to walk up my long driveway so he just signed it for me. He pulled the same crap a few weeks ago when he didn't even bother ringing my door bell.

HATE USPS :thumbdn:

We are scheduled to get the new GPS scanners in August. We just have the phone things now. Maybe we can finally get rid of the MSP scan points....... :o

Anyone notice when you mail a package with the USPS now the address is incorporated with the bar code on the package. At the APC you have to enter the number and the 1st letter of the street and it comes up with the delivery address. It will ask you "is the delivery address 123 Main St.?". It will be much improved over the old system.

I have a few customers that ask me too do that. I don't otherwise. Plus, I will only do it if the package can fit in the box or between the doors. One is a knife guy! :D

My old mail guy was SUPER awesome, we did this thing where he would give me the "sorry we missed you slip" to sign the day before a delivery, and he would leave my package in a secret location that's nice and safe for me. The new mail lady and the Saturday guy is a nightmare.

I will admit- a lot of postal workers are great.....but some aren't worth a stamp. It's the few a-holes that give us a bad reputation. A customer sees one mailman at a bar - now we are ALL drunks.
