Okay folks - this is not a joke.

I just got off the phone after talking with VG's mom, Edith. VG has not been answering his phone at home and his voicemail box is full. With Dave's medical condition, this raises cause for concern, but before calling the Sheriff out to do a welfare check (VG hates those) - I called his mom.

On May 23rd, VG's dogs got out of the fenced yard. VG (Dave) took off after them, apparently hoping to round them up. Dave lives at the very edge of Pahrump, which is very rural. I guess Dave wandered further than he had thought, so he sat down to rest way out in the remote desert. He then fell asleep. It is unknown whether or not he was smoking a cigarette at this time. Dave woke up in flames. Literally. Dave was on fire. We don't know if it was due to a cigarette or possibly prank kids who saw Dave sleeping on the ground and thought it would be fun to light him on fire. We will probably never know what happened.

Someone obviously either saw the fire or discovered him, and called the fire department and paramedics. Dave was air-vac'd to University Medical Center in Las Vegas. He has 2nd degree burns on 50% of his body.

Edith did not know when Dave will be released to return home. Dave is anxious to get out of the hospital. He has been known to just get up and leave in the past, so he may end up at home before the doctors release him.

I just tried to call Dave at UMC, but no one answered the phone in his room.

If you would like his room number, please email me:

MODS - can we make this a sticky until we get Dave stablized at home?

I'll share more info when I get it.

Good God, that's horrible!

What is the address of the hospital? I'm sure VG would appreciate cards from his fans.

OMG!!! That is horrible!!! How is he doing? Is he going to OK?

Did someone find his dogs?

That's awful! Give Dave a shout for me if you can.

Hey Judy...

Holy Crap!!!
OMG thats terrible...

Please keep us updated...
Please send our well wishes to him!

Oh no.
I really do not have words right now. Just prayers.

I just got off the phone with Dave. He has second degree burns on his hands, arms, one foot and one knee. Judy got the story right but he says that he wasn't smoking which means that the fire was probably deliberately set and the fire was all around him rather than him being on fire. He got burnt trying to escape from the fire. He is flying high on meds but coherent. The phone number for the hospital is 702-383-2000 . I am not going to post his last name or his room number but if you know him I'm sure that he would appreciate a call.

Judy, Thanks for all your help and finding out about Dave.

Thanks, Gary, for posting the hospital information. I also did not want to post Dave's last name or room number as it is not my place to divulge that.

I'm glad you were able to talk to Dave and get more info. I didn't think that Dave would have thought to grab his cigarettes when he took off after the dogs, nor would he have taken the time. Dave loves those dogs so much. He probably just started out after them and didn't give it a second thought.

I don't have the phone number of his landlady nor do I know where she lives, so I don't know what to do about his dogs. Hopefully a neighbor would see the dogs hanging around outside the fence and go over to investigate.

I'm sorry to hear about him, I really am. Is there anything that he needs or anything that would make his recovery a little easier?

Smoke sent.

:(

I have emailed Albert Bass, the Director of Visiting Angels, and asked him to look into this incident. I am especially curious to find out if anyone even bothered to investigate why Dave was surrounded by flames.

I also asked Albert to please send an Angel to Dave's place to check on the status of the animals. They hopefully returned home and someone may have put them inside the fenced yard. But Dave doesn't keep water outside for them, only inside the house since that is where they spent the majority of their time - with their Master.

If the dogs and cats are all accounted for (hopefully), I asked that dry dog and cat food be purchased (if needed) and large quantities left out for all the animals, plus plenty of water.

Obviously, I told Albert to invoice the Guardian Angels for the animal welfare check and any food that needs to be purchased for the animals.

When I hear something from Albert, I'll pass it on here.

I am sure sorry to read this. I hope they catch the low life that would do something like this to Dave or anyone else.

JT, once again good job with the Angels, I hope they can take care of Dave's animals until he gets home.

Smoke and prayers go out for Dave, I don't know what to say.

Please keep us posted Judy.

Judy, let me know if we need to raise more funds to help pay for the Angels.
