Vampire Gerbil Air-Vac'd to University Medical Center - Las Vegas

Talked to Dave in the rehab center. He said that the casts have come off his arms but not his hands and his arms seem to be healing fine. He is having a lot of pain with his foot and his bandage changes are verrrry painful. His attitude is good and the rehab center seems to be keeping him busy. He says hi and thanks everyone for all they kind thoughts.

I was able to get Dave on the phone this afternoon. He sounds great - probably because he isn't getting all of the medications he would like to get. He mentioned that he wouldn't mind being back in the hospital for a few days because that's where the really good meds are. Sheesh.

They are going to have to remove some skin and also burned in slipper from the bottom of one foot. He says no way is he going to let them do that without being under general anesthesia. Although his foot is feeling better, he still insists on a morphone IV before he will allow them to change the bandages.

His hands and arms seem to be okay and he didn't complain about any pain with them. He is concerned about when he is at home because he can't walk on his foot. I don't know if he can't walk or if he doesn't want to walk. He wants me to contact Visiting Angels and see if they know where he can get one of those little scooters to ride around the house. I reminded him that there is no room for him to ride around the house or get into his bedroom, but he said he will have a friend move stuff around for him.

He again wants to thank everyone here for the generosity and well wishes. He also thinks that someone should contact Blade Magazine and ask them to do a story on BF and how the members look after their own - he would like recognition for what is being done for him and as an example of what good people most knife people are. He believes it would be good PR for Spark's site also.

So, if anyone knows anyone over at Blade Magazine and would like to give them a call and see if they are interested in Dave's story and the Vampire Gerbil Guarding Angels - please have at it.

I finally got off the phone with Dave, because he hates it when I nag him, and I was starting to nag him about stuff. Hey, the girl can't help it. I was born a nag, and a nag I shall die. So sue me. :D

Thanks for the updates Judy and Kamkazmoto! We're all pulling for a speedy recovery for Dave.

Here's a copy of the email I just sent to Blade magazine, I encourage everyone to do the same because this is a worthy story that shows the community and industry in a positive light.

Remember, everyone that carries a knife is not a bad guy.

We’re always looking’ for good press for the knife community, we all know the press seizes on every opportunity to show some negative aspect of the industry or will skew a story to down play any positive facet of having’ a knife.

I’m a member of one of, if not the largest knife community on the INTERNET, Blade Forums dot com, (Blade Forums.com) one of many similar sites on the INTERNET, all of these communities represent the knife industry in a positive light and are vast clearing houses for knife industry information.

Aside from providing a place like many others for like minded people to share their hobbies and interest, they also provide help to people who sometimes can’t help themselves for what ever reason.

Blade Forums is such a place, a place where no one is judged and most everyone are friends on some level, some gather locally at knife clubs while others see each other only at the various knife shows around the world.

In the spirit of helping a friend one member in particular, with the help of so many others have been helping a member, Vampire Gerbil, who has had a run of bad luck, her forum name is Totally Judy, she has led the way being there to help and along with so many others has given freely of their time and money without a thought for anything other than to help

Judy has managed to take one member as her mission and has given up a lot of time driving back and forth watching over him, she’s also managed to set up an disperse funds donated by other BFC members.

This is a powerful story that shows the knife community in a very positive way and I think it would benefit both your Publication, (which I subscribe to) and the knife communities, which we all belong to.

Here is a link to the story my email address is terdelyi@epix.net my forum name is T. Erdelyi, also included is link http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=479296&highlight=vampire+gerbil to the thread that shows the true caring and generosity of Blade Forums dot com also here is the email of Totally Judy who spearheaded the relief effort for Vampire Gerbil totallyjudy@yahoo.com .

I bring this to your attention because this is the type of thing the knife industry could use, if nothing else you owe it to the industry and community to see what a positive effect people who use, carry and collect all types of knives are really capable of at best it would make a great story with the community being shown in a constructive way.

Thank you for your time and please take the time to read the short story/post,

Tibor A. Erdelyi subscriber, knife collector and user

I replied to this post in the other thread "Let's tell Blade what a great place Blade Forums is." I didn't want to put it here, too. But a link for you:

I just talked to Dave. I rambled and rambled as usual and he hates hearing from me so he finds a way to accidently disconnect me. The stinker.

His foot is not healing as quickly as they would like. He needs to get some good skin growth, especially on the bottom of his foot, so that his foot will be okay. It's a very slow process.

They are still giving Dave the morphine IV before they change the dressings on his foot, but he says it only lasts about 1 hour. I believe he said something about wanting to get 3 different types of pain meds at the same time, 24/7. Sheesh, what a pain med junkie.

Oh, they did change his room, so for those of you who call him, he is no longer in the old room.

Dave is scraggley looking. No high and tight haircut, no shave. He's pretty scarey looking when he gets like that. I guess I need to track down someone in Las Vegas who can correctly do a high and tight. I suppose the shave is pretty routine with a electric shaver.

Still no idea when Dave will get to go home. He's been in the hospital for about 1-1/2 months. Well, for a lot of days and nights. But who is counting? Actually, Dave is probably safer there than he is at home, but don't tell him I said so. :D

So that's the VG report for today. Status quo, but different room. And he still hangs up on me (accidently, or so he says). When I got him on the phone he immediately said, "Did I just hang up on you?" Geez, he is already hoping to hang up on me before I say anything besides, "Hi, it's me!" :(

I just talked to "Delcie" at Vegas Valley Rehab. She is going to have the CNA's give Dave a shave tonight. On Monday I can call and talk to Social Services about getting Dave a haircut - preferably a high and tight.

At first Delcie told me they would give his an electric shaver and he could shave himself. HELLO!!!!! Do they not know their patients? Sheesh. I had to tell her that he cannot shave himself nor give himself a haircut because he has had a stroke and have no use of his left arm/hand. Duh.

At least he will get a shave tonight. Then I can work on the haircut. My goodness, I would think that seeing Dave with his beard and scraggley hair that they would be standing in line to shave him and haircut him.

I'm tempted to contact the sweet gal in Pahrump who gives Dave a perfect high and tight and see if I can pay her to drive to Vegas to fix Dave up. She really likes Dave and told me she would help him any way she could.

Judy

I think I've said it before. You really are an Angel.

Dave's mighty lucky.

If a dose of Morphine IV lasts about an hour, he's in a great deal of systemic pain...and/or he's developed the drug resistance of a Viking berserker. On the other hand (foot?), feet often take a long time to heal. Don't know all the clinical reasons...just an observation.

Still sending up prayer and smoke for VG from Virginia.

Judy, don't feel bad he hangs up on me too. About 5 to 10 minutes of conversation at a time seems to be about all he can handle.

Ah, I don't feel bad. He's been hanging up on me for quite a while. Yeah, he doesn't have much of an attention span for phone calls or conversations of any time. Well, maybe if it was a sex call or conversation, but since I don't provide those services, I don't know!

Note to Ken C. If the sex call part if out of line, you can just edit this post - won't bother me.

Judy

Maybe next time hang up on him when he's in the middle of a sentence?

or maybe not....might turn into a contest.LOL

i just talked to dave after finally talking to a nurse who knew him. he sounded like i might have woke him up (or they have him on some good drugs, lol). he might get out tuesday if things go well.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I am about speechless here. I have not been on BF for a while and had not seen this until this morning. I am amazed... and saddened. Dave buddy I hope and pray things change for the better.

Let see what I can come up with to help... BTW not all who are guardian angels have the wings show---- maybe I should get em but not bein a gold member may make it impossible.

How do we auction a knife or two for Dave?

How do we auction a knife or two for Dave?

We can't do auctions on BF. What some of us have done is just list a For Sale thread and in the title stating something like it being a donation thread or proceeds of the sale will go to the VGGA Fund (Vampire Gerbil Guardian Angel's Fund).

So you would have to determine a price for the knife up front. Just like any other for sale thread.

Some of the guys have had the seller just send their paypal payment to my paypal account, and as soon as I receive the funds, I notify the seller that payment has been received, and then they ship the knife. That saves on getting dinged twice for paypal fees.

And then I can withdraw the money directly into the VG bank account, which also gives me a good record of receiving the funds and then the deposit into the account. So if anyone ever want to check to make sure I didn't run off to Joe-Ja to visit Giggy/Rambo with all of the VGGA $$$$, they could do so. :D

Judy

p.s. here is my paypal email addy: 1badgirl@innocent.com

I just got email from Judy saying that our Beloved VG is home.

"I believe Dave got home last night. I received an email from the Visiting Angels that he called them and wanted a ride home ASAP. Typical Dave with his instant gratification. He really doesn't like to wait for things.

For whatever internet server reasons, I did not receive the email until about 15 minutes ago, and it was sent yesterday around 3 pm.

I can't access BF from work. Would you please post to the thread and let folks know that Dave is back home.

I don't know how he is going to manage with groceries. He can't walk well on that one badly burned foot......

Thanks

Judy"

I called and left a message on his machine telling him about ordering groceries on line from Albertsons and Ralphs. I'll try calling him again later.
