Vampire Gerbil Air-Vac'd to University Medical Center - Las Vegas

Due to popular demand.......I am resurrecting the Vampire Gerbal Guardian Angel Donation Thread. Here is the link:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4670469&postcount=1

Donate early. Donate often! Hope to see you there. If you don't already have VG Wings, here is an opportunity to earn them. All you have to do is provide some sort of assistance to VG or donate to the fund. Past contributions qualify you to proudly fly the VG Wings in your signature line.

Thanks everyone - your concern for our wonderful little furry rodent is appreciated.

I just talked to Dave again. He sounds good and is complaining a lot which is a good sign. He is going to be in the hospital for at least another week or so. The doctors want him to start walking on his burnt foot but he says it hurts too d^mn much to do so just yet. Any encouragement to get him to start rehab would be appreciated.

Dave says hello to everyone and wanted me to thank you all for all your worry and caring. He appreciates all that you are doing for him but doesn't figure that he deserves it

Judy, Dave says thank you for all you have done and are doing for him. I would like to add my thanks too. Thank you lovely lady.

I just got off the phone with Dave, and with all things considered he sounds pretty good. He's going to be in the hospital a few more days, but he's anxious to go home. Why I couldn't tell you. His pets are being taken care of.

I had to admit I'm not in any position where I can help him this time around. Dave understood, and really does appreciate what the folks here have done for him. I want to thank you all as well.

PhilL..... Oh YES YOU CAN help this time around. Just like last time. We need help with the VG Wings and fixing it so that people who fly the wings have a link to the donation thread.

So I don't want to hear any "I can't help this time around." You can help with the VG Wings and link - so there. Nanner nanner. You designed the VG Wings and setting up a link would be easy for you to do. It would probably take you all of 45 seconds. Okay, maybe 90 seconds if you take your time and drink a beer first.

PhilL, you've always been a good and loyal friend to Dave. There are many ways to help a friend besides financially. As Kazkamoto said, Dave needs encouragement to get into rehab and get walking so he can get home. Although I think Dave is liking the system he's got set up - he just calls the nurse's station and says, "I need something for pain, please." And they bring it within 5 minutes.

Actually Judy I don't know how to link the VG wings to the donation thread.
In fact the link from my "Will Work 4 Knives" logo to my album site was setup by Dave, he was really good at doing that HTML code. I never was. Someone will come along that can hook you up.

Sorry Babe.

Judy, please send me a PM. The last time I wanted to help VG, the link didn't work.

I have only met Dave once - at the first BLADE show I attended. I had only read his posts on the forums up to that time and had no idea what he looked like. But he overheard someone addressing me as CRF (probably Gus) and hobbled over with his cane to introduce himself.

After a few minutes of conversation, I could tell that he was a totally nuts, a total freak. I liked him immediately.

I talked to Dave the other day. He said that when the dogs got out, he only had one shoe on and then quickly got a house slipper. You have to picture Dave, who needs a cane to walk without falling on his face, trying to catch two big dogs racing across the desert, and he's wearing mismatched shoes, and a slipper that doesn't stay on.

It's dark, but Dave gets the dogs, Blue and Jake. They all sit down together, and that is when Dave fell asleep. I think he had lost the slipper by that time. He woke up in the middle of a brush fire, started by unknown persons. I don't know how extensive the brush fire was or if it was just around Dave.

Dave said that he could hear fire equpment nearby, but couldn't see anything. Probably sirens also. It's dark, fire is everywhere, and Dave starts yelling, "HELP ME! HELP ME!" over and over and over. Of course he is trying to get the fire out that is on and around him. Dave had told the dogs to leave and shoo'd them away. I guess they took off.

I believe he said that he finally laid down in a small crevice to stay away from the flames. A firefighter was not too far away and Dave could see him, so he started yelling again. I have no idea where the fire engines or trucks were in relation to Dave.

The firefighter locates Dave, picks him up and carries him over his shoulder/back, just like in the movies. I don't know if the paramedics were already on scene or not at this point. Initially they transported Dave to the hospital in Pahrump. But the hospital realized that they were not set up to provide the care he needed for his burns. That is when Dave was air vac'd to University Medical Center Burn Center.

I asked Dave about the dogs. One of the taxi guys has both dogs staying with him. Someone was going to take some food inside for the cats. So the animals are being cared for. Dave asked the female taxi driver how she found out he was in the hospital (she called him) and she said that it had been on the news about the fire and a guy who had been burned who lived on Z Street. She knew there weren't many people living on Z Street, so she looked into it. Dave has a couple of good friends in some of the taxi drivers.

That's all the news that's fit to print.

I just found this thread and it sickens me that there are low-lifes such as this living in my home state. What bothers me more is I live to far from Dave to be of any help to him.

This is the first time I've been on BFC since before Blade, so I haven't seen this thread until now. Damn . . .

TJ -- I'll get another check off to you this weekend.

Gosh, can't you just drive it over tomorrow and drop it off? California isn't that far from you. You can even stop at the hospital and say hi to VG!!!

Every donation is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Judy

I was doing some web surfing for information on the fire. So far I only found this link. I'm not sure if the date in the article is wrong. The location looks right, about a block off Z Street.

Wow, thanks for finding that, Jeff. I tried to search the newspaper online but didn't come up with anything. Obviously I knew not what I was doing! Color me blonde.

Yep, sounds like it was Dave, alright. I got the May 23rd date from his mom, so May 22 could be the correct one.

I called Dave and read him the information that was on the link. He says that it was him. Thanks Jeff, I never would have been able to find it.

Not for nuthin' but I've seen high school newspapers written better than that article. Whatever happened to; Who, what, where, when and how?

Just talked to Dave and he is being transferred to a rehab facility. Don't have the number or name but you should be able to get it from the hospital tonight. When I get it I will post the information.

He sounded OK, maybe a little apprehensive about starting rehab. His foot still hurts and I don't think he wants to work it on rehab. I think he needs a push so if anyone can call him and buck his spirits up it would be appreciated.

I just called Dave, and they were in the process of transferring him to rehab, so he couldn't talk. I did manage to get the name of where he is going, so I went online and got the phone number, then called the rehab center to confirm that they are getting Dave. Confirmed by providing his name.

Obviously I did not warn them about what they are getting into.......

But here is the info. He won't be set up to receive calls for about 2 more hours.

Vegas Valley Rehabilitation Hospital
2945 Casa Vegas
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 735-7179
Nurses's Station 1 handles his room.

As before, I am not putting down Dave's room number or last name. Although I just happen to have both!

Since Dave was in the middle of being transferred, I wasn't able to cheer him up or provide moral support for his rehab. So we all need to call him.

Kamkazmoto, thanks for the update that Dave is being transferred.
