Victorinox SAK Farmer...What's so special about them?...

the custom guys like Scibeer make em!

My scibeer-modified Farmer with scissors is probably the most useful pocketknife I have. I find the thicker blade stock to be up to tough usage in the field, and the Vic SAK saw will cut through anything from hardwood to plywood!

Sorry if the quality sucks. Hope this helps. They fold back pretty flat when using and don't really get in the way. The tweezers work great especially for splinters.

Yes! great guy and he does beautiful work.

Edit: and he has a site! http://e-webtechnologies.com/knifemods/

Ooooo, thanks for that link. Tim and Bill have been great to work with on this so far. It has been pretty seamless. Ordered from Tim and he sent it direct to Bill for me so I wouldn't have to re-mail.

I noticed on his web-page there is a disclaimer that any mods he does voids the Vic lifetime warranty. I think that is a good point folks should keep in mind. It doesn't really bother me give their fairly low cost in the first place.

There are some great photos of his work on there!

I bought mine in Freiburg (Southwest Germany). They didn't display it there either. I had to ask if they had ALOX models - and they did. They told me that the average customer (who buys SAKs as a souvenier or gift) rarely asks for them. If someone asks, it's someone who needs it for work (electricians for example).

I bought mine in Karlsruhe - an awesome little town!

I like the saw of the 111 mm much better, but for edc the 93 mm are great.A soldier and a Lone Wolf T1 are my combo :D But those SAK's are great - gonna buy a colour Farmer or an Electrician Plus :)

Now that this thread is back up, I thought I'd let all you bastids know I now have a brand new silver Alox Farmer in my pocket....dagnabbit.

I'm not proud of it but.....I just bought one as well.

I was a big fan of my soldier, but always wanted the amazing little saw, then I heard of the farmer and got a blue one. I surprised the he!! out of a bunch of people who were laughing at me when I pulled it out to cut my girlfriend at the times hockey stick down to size.

Though the farmer is my favourite SAK it has fallen into a limbo for actual use, the OHT gets the nod for its serrated locking blade, and the cadet is my EDC, anyone who likes the farmer should grab one of those little devils, very slim, I hardly notice it in the little pocket inside my main jeans pocket. (that make sense?) I'll try to add pics soon.

I am about to but I am having a hard time finding a store that carries Farmers and Tenacious (plain and serrated, one of each) as well as being able to ship overseas... lol. the price being reasonable is always a plus!

so, 7 & 1/2 years later, where is everyone at with the farmer?
well, i will tell you where i'm at... the farmer is what everyone here talking it up has said & MORE!
the alox makes it thinner than any red scaled sak with the same number of layers, this alone makes it highly appealing to the emergency/survival kit crowd... it was what really spiked the "hype" for the farmer around the same time this thread first appeared... when i discovered the farmer, about 4 years ago, the hype was still strong & there was a trend with the youtube gearheads to make survival/emergency kits in those maxpedition tactical edc pouches, & the farmer was slimmer than all the others with the same compliment of tools in a medium sized sak, which made it the obvious choice as a last resort survival blade/tool, the legendary victorinox saw sealed the deal of course, without which i personally would have very little reason to carry an sak, all the sak's i own & use are the ones with a saw, from little wenger's to the vic camping line etc. to the 108's to the 111's & back to the wenger's with their big ranger series... unfortunately i now notice on the modern 111's from victorinox that the wood saw has been thinned down & does not look nearly as hardy.... but yah yah, the sak saw is the main reason i bother with the sak.... after a long search for a dedicated fixed blade for the mess kit, i've come to accept the sak main blade as the best camp food prep knife, the long but thin blade, the corrosion resistance, the extra tools many of which are right at home in a mess kit, yah more maintenance than a fixed blade, but still these rock! in my mess kits i use a rucksack or outrider because of the longer blade & comfy handle ...
but back to the farmer eh! the size is very pocket friendly & i'm about to go back to this as an edc because i'm tired of the pocket clip on my skyline catching on things & almost getting lost... the few times that i used this reamer i did find it more effective than the back layer version that is at 90 degrees... the more robust blades, the slimmer profile, the saw... a piece everyone needs in their kit or collection...
