Though I cant physically vote, I would want to see a Utility drop point with flat grind.

***Scandi pattern with full flat grind (Woodslore)***

or anything else full flat.

I'd add a protrudring tang if possible.

Results so far:

Utility pattern with flat grind = 39

Scandi Grind pattern = 19

Scandi pattern with flat grind = 7

Chopper = 10

I'd go for the drop point utility, though I'm not keen on some aspects of the NWA "as is". There's a decent gap between the index finger and the start of the blade which would need to be removed to give a nice choke up for carving. I'm thinking more along the lines of this "Badger" Drop Point in Ironwood Burl from J Neilson:

Drop the point a bit further and add a recurve it would be even sweeter. Forged would be preferred, forged damascus would be to die for, although I guess that would price out too many.

P.s. He's also got some of the nicest scandi grinds I've come across (http://www.mountainhollow.net/scandi-bushcraft.htm), but my vote's for the drop point

Sorry I seem to unwittingly be describing a Spyderco Dayhiker:

yhst-84729437292754_1947_8144291

4.75" blade of N690Co steel, 5.75" green Micarta handle. Comes complete with a Kydex sheath.

Not intentional but that's the direction I was thinking design wise... hmm $131.08 on defenseknife.com, maybe Spyderco would do a bf limited edition...

I know it would mean it's not bf designed but.. nice blade anyway :)

I like the scandi edge Linger style. I also like the idea of the blades coming nekkid so we can save a few bucks and each do our own handles. I think it'd be neat to see all the different variations.

Here'es one I got as a blade and put a handle on. Another advantage is you can make the handle fit your hand. Most people have seen me post it other places but what the hell

I really am prefering that Linger style bushcraft blade. I don't like the dropped edge on all the utilities floating around here.

HD- THAT is freakin' cool!! I really, really like that style, and I love what ya' did with it! It truly appears very elegant, but capable. Thanks for posting it! (I'd never seen it before)

Now I'm afraid I'll have to start a new thread mentioning all the lovely benefits of Scandi grinds and spear points....:D ;) (J/K)

I prefer a utility drop point, or a chopper, but will go with whatever design the group chooses. I'm in depending on price and material.

I own and have tested many knives. I have traveled all around the United States taking survival training classes. All the survival instructors including myself have one thing in commen, Scandi "V" grind knives.

Ray Mears, Jack Mountain Bushcraft, Mors Kochanski, BOSS (Boulder Outdoor Survival School), Cody Lundin (Aboriginal Living Skills School), Bison Bushcraft , Woodsmoke, Tom Brown Tracking School. All these places recomend and sell to their students scandi blades for their courses. I wonder why?

RWS,

The blade was made by Steve Cox, SWC knives. I got the first blade from him, the one with the osage scales but I really liked the balance of the Fallkniven.

I asked him if he could make me one with a slightly shorter blade, with less taper to the point and to make the scandi grind higher so the edge would be finer. I was really pleased with what he sent me:thumbup:

That's what I liked about Mykka's version was it was 1/8" which with that sort of grind would cut and slice great.

HD,
1/8" would be a sweet cutter. It the design is not picked, you and I can get a maker to do a few for us.

Hey guys, I was going to suggest that maybe two designs get made and still be considered the forum knife. What do you think? Since it seems to breaking down into the Scandi vs. drop point, that may work out for everybody.

I was thinking along the same lines. We could do two knife patterns: drop point, and scandi. And maybe a few handle scale choices: micarta, g-10 or wood. Just a thought, and we'll have to work it out with the maker. I'm going to head over the the makers forum here in the next few days to drum up some interest over there.
