I think that's a great idea, the two designs. It would also make me feel better committing to purchase one. (the Scandi one, of course):D

I have somebody who is willing to make me one in 1/8. I've been talking to him about the design.

Hollowdweller,
Who is the maker, and would he be willing to make a second one for me :D

If you want to futher discuss PM me.

Thanks - Ron

My vote goes for the utility drop point, although I would ultimately go with whatever the majority decide. As for material, I would suggest (in order of preference) L-6, O-1, W-2, 1095. As you can see, I think that toughness, ease of sharpening, and edge retention should be the main characteristics of survival knife steel. There is also the matter of cost, but I have no idea of how expensive these materials are. At the end, cost may be the deciding factor on which material to use.

Great Job Tarmix, it looks like we already got a reply.......sweet. Thanks for asking about both designs.....................:D  your alright.......:D

Stop it:o ;)

I think the plan is to offer two or three designs so we can accommodate as many as possible.

Drop point
Scandi
Scandi with flat grind

Not sure yet. I need to talk to a few makers an see what is feasible for them.

Also would like to offer two or three different handle materials as well.

Let me work it out with a few makers that are generally interested and I'll come back for suggestions from you folks.

Thanks for the kind words Myakka:thumbup:

To anyone that wants to or has not voted for a forum knife design yet please feel free to do so, I am going to post all updates as we go in the sticky threads however.

BTW to Brian (or whoever) did the stickys........ THANK YOU:thumbup: :)

Thanks to all.

Does my vote on this thread count or should I post it on one or both of the sticky threads? I never claimed to be that bright, I don't know the answer.

Your vote here counts. I just will not be updating info on this thread anylonger due to the two "sticky" threads above. However any one that has not voted can still do so here and we will be counting them all:)

A utility drop point with a full flat grind sounds great. I had planned on making something similar myself in the near future, in fact.
