Waffling! or Help my decide WHICH knife to complete my new resolution with

This would be easy for me. The Texas Jack. Why easy? For years I have carried two blade jack knives and found them to be all the knife I ever needed. And, as you well know Ryan, that secondary blade is quite a stout one, not the typical small pen blade.

Except for a straight edge like a wharncliffe or sheepsfoot (which none of your options has) I think you have everything you'll need in that Texas Jack.

Most folks work takes up 5 of the seven days...which of the three will you tend to pick and not worry about working with? My guess would be the soddie, tough as nails and you can drop it all day long and not worry about it. Getting used to carrying just one knife actually requires one to NOT think about it. Just Do It :) After a while it will feel weird not having that one knife on you

I also find it a bit strange that you posted a picture of a knife you weren't considering (but I'm glad you did). GEC 85 Bullet Jack would be my choice. Two blades as opposed to one. More comfortable handle than the Case Small Texas Jack if you have to bear down on the knife to make a cut (and you might not even make that cut for fear of damaging your Precious). Easier carry than a full sized Trapper. Usable with gloves that you don't have to take off (no mittens or ski gloves here) to get the knife out of your pocket. But that's just me. You'll do fine with any of them (if you have to).

As someone who had decided to make this challenge also I would stick with your original thought as I see it sometimes your first inspiration is the best option. Always time to try the challenge again with a different companion. I also was wsffling about my choice but am going to stick with my modified Tl-29 that is rapidly becoming my "precious"

Texas jack!

You're far enough south that it can't be that tough a winter, so taking off gloves for a moment is not finger threatening. The jack will give you two very usable blades in one package. Like has been mentioned, the pen blade on the jack is a stout little blade. If you do a lot of cutting in the warehouse, just stick a box cutter or Stanley utility knife in the coat pocket for use at work.

Yeah, the Texas Jack. If it's already your 'precious' then it's clear where your sentiments lay.

Carl.

post number 5 is my tally post. As of this moment its current
and the texas jack is taking a commanding lead :p

I say texas jack since it sounds like your favorite. Just need to stop being afraid to use it. In fact, I suggest you take it out right now and drop it right on the floor. You heard me. Just get it over with so you can use it like it deserves! :D

Ryan,
Four GREAT Knives.
My Buddy was showing his Case Trapper yesterday, His father gave it to him when he was 13.
He has been carrying it almost every day for 39 years.
The Texas Jack is a terrific overall knife, One of the best patterns ever made.
The G.E.C. 85 is a good choice also.
The Sodbuster would be the one I would carry every day till May 1, TOUGH and you WON'T lose it.

Forget what I said earlier my wife asked me why I was carrying 2 knives and it dawned on me that even though I love the Tl-29 I out of habit also have been carrying my case 62087 medium jack and I realized when I didn't put it in my pocket today that something was missing so I am changing to my real "knife" the peanuts bigger brother the medium jack. The only thing that could possibly make this knife more perfect would be CV blades instead of tru-sharp but it has worked for me so why fix what ain't broke. I hope this experiment makes me "finally" become even more satisfied with even less and simplify a lot of areas not just my knife world

i actually did drop it on concrete once
i tried to stick it in a wooden coffee table (yeah the wife just LOVES that)) and it fell off and hit the floor. kinda chipped the blade a little, luckily no damage to the scales, those pretty pretty scales.

If it were me, with my own knife preferences with YOUR above choices, I would go with the Texas Jack. The semi-Wharncliffe Pen blade is just too useful to overlook. My second choice would be the GEC 85. The blades are so dissimilar that it would cover many bases.

If I were taking your resolution based on my OWN knives, it would be with a single-blade GEC #15 Boys Knife (Clip blade) or the single-blade GEC #55 Hounds Tooth. I'm coming to understand that my own ideal is a single blade in a 3.5" package.

well i cant seem to locate a 15...not exactly sure i could pony up the $$ for one if i found it. But i admit it looks pretty
the hounds tooth doesnt really do it for me, but you know what does? the 92 *swoons* i forget what the color name is exactly, but its a really pretty white bone, someone keeps posting pics of it.

that being said, i am trying to be a little more..consistent with my knives, not add to the pile O.o

Don't do it Man!

Alright. the 85.
Actually -if I was to embark on such a lunatic adventure I would buy a special new knife with which to achieve it.

I think the TJ, it's your favourite and a good pattern, so give it the use it deserves.

Trapper second though for me...
