Waffling! or Help my decide WHICH knife to complete my new resolution with

Well you have until midnight tonight to decide. In all honesty, any of them that you choose will work fine. Personally I find the full-sized trapper bigger than I want to lug around in my pocket every day during the work week.

The real issue here isn't that you have to pick one knife to carry. It's that you have to pick all of the others to NOT carry. If you only owned one knife, then you'd carry it and not know that you were missing anything. You'd make do. But since you have others, you do know what you are missing, or perhaps longing for.

This is a self-imposed exercise in self-denial. I don't know your specific reasons for undertaking this test of willpower, but compared to dieting, exercising more, or quitting smoking, it seems like a relatively easy one to achieve. Just pick one and go forward.

Hey Ryan, I have been following this thread a bit, and I'll just throw this last bit in for fun. I have decided to make a similar carry decision, and the knife I will tote is one that caught me by surprise how well it "fit me". Kinda like the song fool around and fell in love ;)

This powderhorn has been a pretty constant companion for a while now, not exclusive, but carried and used more than any other (excepting my little #25). It's been dropped, used around water, food etc., and the ebony just looks and feels great to me. I am going to pack up a bunch of my knives that are in my rotation drawer, (temptation avoidance) and carry this guy until spring at least.
For me this is a really easy decision, because I really do love this particular knife...I hope your decision is based on which one will make "you" happiest in the end...Good Luck

it seems to be narrowed down to these two

with the caveat that the alox soldier will be tagging along as backup :D

the texas jack is just so pretty, so sleek and sexy-like
but the ebony scales are so nice in hand on the 85, plus look at that big beefy clip point.
on the other hand the TJ rides in the pocket just so easy

....

That GEC looks like some malformed abomination. Carry the Case! And to be honest if you are also carrying a SAK, it's not exactly a 1-knife challenge.

I carry the Vic Cadet with me now and it could easily be my "one knife." If I were so inclined. Which I ain't.

You have about 4 hours to recant your folly and return to polycutlery.

Wow, in a side by side, the Case does look much slimmer and more elegant.
(running for the jackknife bunker in the basement.)

See, I kind of thought the opposite. I think the GEC is maybe my front runner now. Glad it's not my choice. Lol.

Sorry Ryan. All in good fun man. All in good fun. I look forward to your choice.

Going to try the one knife thing and see how long I can go with one. Blade of choice for this a Yellow Sodbuster in CV.

that was my ORIGINAL plan
but you know, no plan survives contact with the enemy intact (polycutlery and wish washiness)

ok, its basically the moment of truth here.
so i have made my decision

I will carry my Case Texas Jack for the next 5 months. While its may not be the ONLY knife i carry, it will be my GO TO knife. If i need to cut it, i wont be using the sak i will be using the TJ. I just cant give up the tools (even if i ditched the soldier, i would put a Multi-tool on the belt and lets face it, thats more weight than i want to carry lol).

Wish me luck folks and thanks for all your input and suggestions.

I think i am going to take Carls advice and box up and put the rest of the knives up and away for now. Out of sight out of mind. I think i'll get a chance to get a couple pics for a Day 1 of the experiment pic so we can compare at the end.

First you need to buff off that nasty patina so at least you start with a pretty knife.

yeah, i am not going to do that
the first thing i do is throw a patina on, so if i stripped it off, i would just..turn around and put one back on in a day or two...
seriously i have some acidic sweat and it will start rusting even in winter :D

I think it's a good choice to go with your favourite, it will make it much easier in the long run. And the Texas Jack is a sweet lil knife, I intend to get on from my local shop in the next couple of days if it's still there.
