Whether this is "good" or "bad" depends on how you look at it.
Wally World will never carry the plethora of excellent Spydercos available; the Spydies are incredible knives for the price, but most consumers will fail to appreciate the differences between the lower and higher-end knives. It's the nature of the beast that one pays a lot for that extra 15 or 20% at the top, when a knife is capable of extra performance that Joe Sixpack average end-user isn't capable of even noticing yet.
Good, reputable dealers like New Graham are going to continue stocking the Spyderco knives that Wal Mart can/will not. What the Wal Mart sales will do, is expose Spyderco to a whole new audience.
There is an excellent chance that many in this new audience will eventually look for something even more upscale. Wal Mart will not have it.
Where will these new buyers turn?
And then, New Graham and others who stock the entire, or majority of the Spyderco line win.
Downside to NGK and others? They don't sell some knives initially, but
most of these purchase are to people who never would have found them, anyway. Yeah, and to a few knife knuts like myself who think the Native II is just about the perfect Daily Carry Blade. In the long term, there is an excellent chance that Spyderco dealers will end up selling
more because there is a Spyderco at Wal Mart.
