Wal Mart Native!

The Walmart near me had them in stock and I picked one up. It looks to be a very high quality knife especially at this price point. It will be my EDC until I figure out how to get my Delica combo edge sharpened back up. It just doesn't want to get an edge. May need to send it back to Spyderco for a sharpening!

I checked the WM in Martinsville IN. No Natives there. They sold out in Bloomington in short order. People at the Spydie plant are gonna be working a lot of overtime I think.

Wonder if New Graham is getting the same deal as Walmart or if NG just dropped the price to match Walmart.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to send it on to a friend who's been looking for a Walmart special.

I think this is potentially a very smart move since you get a huge audience via Wal Mart. I would also like to see them at Target.

Will Spyderco be selling the CE at Walmart anytime soon? Prices dont seem reasonable right now. As of now, to get serrations it would cost an extra 20 dollars.

Pulaski, TN has none.

Lawrenceburg, TN has them in stock. 39 and some change.

I think these are nice folders, just a little small for my hands.

$40 to try out S30V is not a bad deal, however.

Sure there is. It's called a brass punch and a light tap. (Note I said a LIGHT tap.) I had an older 440V Native that got loose, and a couple of taps tightened it right back up.

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't thought of that before.

Go easy if you try it, or you'll wind up with a pivot that is too stiff. Start with really light taps and adjust as you go. You might even use a light hammer to tap the punch, something like an upholsterer's hammer. And make sure there is something solid on the other side of the knife--piece of wood is a good choice, as it'll give a little and not ding up the pivot pin.

So I finally got around to checking if my local Wal Mart had Natives and it turns out they do. Buying it was quite painless by the way. The sales rep took one out for me to examine and offered to switch it out if it wasn't up to par. However, it was just fine. In fact, the knife is almost perfect. There is a very small imperfection inside the opening hole, but that's it.

Here are my thoughts on the knife:
Positives: I really like how the knife is broad enough to fill your hand when holding it, but still disappears in your pocket. I like the tip up carry. I like the fact it's a lockback. I like how sharp it is, and I like how it's ambidextrous.

Negatives: I only have a few minor gripes with the knife... I wish it didn't stick out so far when you carry it. This makes it uncomfortable to carry IWB with tighter pants like jeans. It also took me a while to get used to the opening hole.

Here are some pics I snapped:

Do you mean the handle is too thick or does it stick up too high above the belt?

I mean it sticks up too high above the belt. This is really no problem for me if the knife is clipped in my pocket, but it kinda pokes me when I have it clipped in my waistband.

I totally agree. I have been posting for a low ride clip very chance I get. It is Christmas maybe Sal will surprise us with some good news. A low ride clip would really sell.

I've been carrying a GIN-1 Golden, CO model for years. I love the knife, but it's a serrated model. A couple weeks ago I was in a real knife store and took a look at the S30V plain edge. It was what I was looking for, but the price was more than I had. I handled the walmart model yesterday and the only difference I noticed was the price. I'm going to go back with my old Native and compare the two side-by-side. If it measures up, I can't think of a reason not to get it. I'm not a big fan of wally world, either, but when you don't have a lot of money it's hard to have ideals.

As much as I don't like Wally World's business practices, I picked up a Native there. Actually, it was an early Christmas present from the Mrs. Had I known New Graham dropped the price I would have gotten it from there. I guess I'll just have to get a NativeIII from NGK. I hate to support Wal-Mart but I like to support Sal. Hmmm...

Great little knife, but you guys know that already.
