Wanna Help Design The Busse "Woodcraft" Knife????

The Nessmuk blade profile provides rigidity and strength at the front 1/3 with width rather than thickness. Then it tapers back to the ricasso as leverage decreases, as the need for resistance to bending decreases just like a tapered tang. It also results in a drop point without sacrificing belly or lowering the tip to handle alignment. I wouldn't want to see these features lost to a more conventional profile and this may be the opportunity to go there. I don't necessarily look for a Ness copy, but to employ the concept of the profile function for a really unique model would sure be something to look forward to.

Think of it: A comparatively thin (by Busse standards:D:)) but still very strong blade computer designed for near perfect resistance to bending from end to end. If clamped in a vise at the front 1/4 or so and flexed, it would follow a near perfect arc with no wasted steel (weight). A tapered tang (not a probability though:grumpy:) would be the pinnacle of function, and strength to weight ratio. :) Regards, ss.

Could my first Busse also be my first Nessie?
My preferance is 4-4.5 inch blade 1/8" thick(3/16 if it must.) Natural tan micarta and satin finish. I'd like it to preserve the curves as much as possible to the wood carving of the trio. As for the guard...ehh...I could go either way.

I too,Really like R.F.'s design.but (I)would prefer the rope pattern found on the handle.(like the ones on the earlier satin Jacks.) /wipes drool from corner of mouth/

Wouldn't we all. Unfortunately, they lost the CNC program for that pattern. I have tried to get black paper replacements for my ABA (which has tan canvas) to no avail.

How about this, find someone who knows how to write CNC programs. HMMMMMM? Let me look at my resume. It's been awhile, but most machinists I know are capable.

I think that the talon hole/choil/edge area needs to be similar to the Basic 3 with the crinkle coating. it has the small choil cut out.
That way you could still have the talon hole/guard, and have the blade edge come almost up to it instead of a big ole finger choil cutout.
Seems like a 1/8" cutout would give you the distinctive Busse Talon hole/guard profile without losing much of the edge.

And maybe have the talon hole/guard drop 1/8" below the edge line.

My "requests":

Orange handle option (I once lost a grey handled knife when it fell into brush. No matter how hard I looked, it was gone gone gone).

Approx 4" blade.

Flat spine with corners left sharpish (for firestick application)

Slightly more belly than AD

Thinish blade - .14

That's it. I'm really looking forward to this offering!

I keep seeing this repeated, but I don't understand it. Aren't there devices that can trace a surface and create the CNC program needed to reproduce same? It's none of my business, but I would imagine if Busse really wanted to get it done, they could find a way.

Agreed. I have not seen nor heard what Jerry has to say on this, but I do know programming for far more intricate designs are written daily. If this is something they no longer want to offer, that I can understand. I would like to see it come back, but I wonder what the real scoop is.

I'm only repeating what Garth told me.

How about an INFI version of this...

How about a similar design to the one I have by Brian Goode... here's some pics. Looks similar to the concept drawing above.

of course those Nessmuk knives by Daniel look fantastic as well. :D
