Wanna Help Design The Busse "Woodcraft" Knife????

You go away on business for a few days...and you miss all the cool stuff.

Be that as it may (BTAIM), Tony's post here sums it up for me.

Don't forget a reduced choil and a thumb ramp (for us digitally challenged old guys)! It would be nice if I could use it to start fires...

I only held Ducci's SHBA for a few minutes and I was working from what I thought was the best Busse for this kind of knife, the CPDABA. From looking at some SHBA photos I'd say yes the SHBA would work just fine if the blade wasn't so tall from edge to spine.

To me the large Warden would be a very distant third choice.

Doesn't have to be a Nessmuk to make me happy. I already buy Dan Koster's amazingly efficient Nessmuks!

OH! Name...

Nuclear Enhanced Woodscraft Knife -- NEWK!! (Hey, it sort of rhymes.) :D

It would be the 'bomb' on a camping, hiking, or any other outdoors trip.

...stain resistance. This is more important in the field than most people think; nearly a third of the utility of a bushcraft knife comes from preparing food and I don't want rust anywhere near my meals....

It's really not a good idea to prepare your food with the same knife that you use on non food items.
If your gonna need a knife for food than carry one in your kit just for that.

Back in the 1930's there was this rancher guy riding his horse through southern oregon,
stopped to skin out a dead fur animal that he found,
later on he used the same knife, (a pocket knife), to peel an apple that he picked, yep, got poisoned and died.

Sure, a rare case but it does happen.

You don't want problems with your guts when your out in the bush...:(

Who cares what it is called, get your design needs expressed!

Here is another one I have always wanted. A bigger version of the three finger, Nice and simple:thumbup:

I'm going to borrow from Old Physics and suggest the name of NEWT Nuclear Enhanced Woodcraft Tool.
Or Anarexic NEWT since I would prefer a thinner blade. Length of 4 inches with a trailing or drop point. Thumb gooves on the spine. No choil but definitly a guard. I hate knives without a guard since it is easy to slip when the knife gets wet or bloody. Straight handle with paper mircata and double cut finish, or cerakote finish as option. Lastly a flat butt that you can use to tap in tent pegs or use your palm to push in on. Those rounded or sharper butts hurt. Also screws to hold the scales on so you can clean under them if the blade is not coated.

I have a suspision that the scales will not come off on a Busse knife. There are to many people out there that would figure out a way to turn something like that into a warranty claim, and I'm sure that the Boss would like to keep those in the single digits. Everything that Busse sell is backed up by THE WARRANTY and adding removable scales seems like a pretty big wildcard to throw out there.

This just the opinion of one man, so don't go and act like it means something.

So far this looks like it will turn out to be a cool midsized knife,

I'll take it.

I had thought of that point about the slabs being removable. In the end if some of us want that, it's not hard to drill out the rivets and replace the hardware with something that would allow for customizing some slabs. I am just excited about the offering too

Samek, it looks like you have very good design software, could you modify the picture of the top knife and make the choil much smaller? Maybe 1/5 - 1/6 smaller? Thanks.
No, I think the choil must be as big as it is on my picture. If you can't put your index finger in it, it's worthless.
Software? Only CorelDraw and Photoshop.

I hope you didn't think I was saying your drawing was bad, I just didn't think that a choil was needed on this style knife and would want as much cutting edge as possible, thus maybe a .125 radius for sharpening ease. I wanted to see (and it looks like others) what the blade would look like with a much smaller choil and since you had already had a nice drawing made, I thought the software you were using might make it easy to change.

What about a "Set" of 2 knives? Everybody seems to be converging between a utility blade and a large chopper. A Numbered set would be awsome and another step towards bankruptcy:D.
