Wanna Help Design The Busse "Woodcraft" Knife????

Setting aside the blade shape,

To me the handle and how it meets the edge is what makes a "Woodcraft" type knife.
It has to facilitate various holding styles, not just a straight power cut.
the handle has to be fairly substantial and oval shaped.
No choil needed, just about a 1/8" cutout for ease of sharpening.
The talon hole would be the guard.
Batoning not really needed as that gets into the "utility" knife area.

As the name implies, a Woodcraft knife is for crafting things out of wood
so it needs to be light and nimble rather than thick and strong.

My 2 cents worth.

I am thinking a slightly straighten Pork Belly Skinner, but flat ground to 1/8".

It should not have any coating just naked INFI, and not longer than 4".

4" blade maybe with a slight drop point, flat grind and less than .18" thick. DC or satin finish would be my choice. Most improtant is to have fun with the design. There are a ton of bushcraft options out there. I'd want it to be a little different than the other stuff out there and would definately want it to look like it was a Busse!

An anorexic SHBA, full flat grind, double cut, with thumb grooves (no ramp), in either green linen or orange g10 slabs!:):thumbup::D

yes i agree since INFI is so indestructable a thinner blade is all anyone should ever need 3/16" :D Make mine just like this one:eek:

Hi,

I would prefer a thin, full-convex grind, satin finish, minimal guard, and a little more "stabby" than the standard Nessy.

This is a recent purchase of mine that is nice... I would like a beefier handle.

Def needs full flat grind... Grips would have to be linen, canvas, or maybe denim micarta. G10 would just be either to slick or sharp depending on the pattern cut into the material.

This reminds me to call the shop tomorrow... I need a total custom done :D and unless someone is real sneaky I haven't seen anything like it come out of the shop

I agree with the general consensus of around 4" long, 3/16" thick, and definitely DC or Satin.

I was also thinking a full height convex grind would be a nice subtle variation on full flat, but I see Walkabout beat me to that suggestion. So +1.

Finally, Orange G-10 has to be an option. There isn't nearly enough of this around. :D

4.5" blade
no choil
no guard
drop point
3/16" stock
full flat grind
DISTAL TAPER
micarta handles
should come with a matching firesteel

3/16" Thick, 4.5" blade, 5.5" handle (includes chisel/scraper shaped pommel/skullcrusher) w/ integral fingerguard/choil. Grooved thumb-ramp. Offered in DC and Satin, and Snakeskin Nukarta as well as all those awesome G-10 mixes need to be available.
You already know what I think for shape and design, but I'll post it for comments.

Thanks for addressing this Jerry! You ROCK!

THIS is TASTY right here! Mebbe a TINY bit more curve in the edge, but I do mean just a li'l bit more. The snakeskin nucarta, that's the stuff on the original AD's right?? 0h yeah, that'd be sweet! Thumb grooves... I think mymindisamob's been thinkin' on this for some time.

Mike H has it right except for one thing - Make an AD the size of a SHBA. That may be perfect.

Oh, almost forgot - 3/16" w/ a full flat grind and D/C with smooth micarta.

what exactly is meant by "woodcraft?"

Noun: woodcraft wûdkrãft
- Skill and experience in matters relating to the woods (as hunting or fishing or camping)
- Skill in carving or fashioning objects from wood

I guess your all-purpose camping knife/tool.

SHBA overall blade shape and size. An acceptable alternative would be the BAIII blade, but with a spear point.

0.10 - 0.15" blade thickness

The Game Warden handle silhouette, but scaled up ~25% and given some good sized palm swells. It needs to be close to symmetrical.

No choil. Run the blade edge right up to the talon hole/guard.

Micarta handles with oversized tubing fasteners that can be used as lashing points.
